Its actually insane just how 1 event in the rise of the Ottoman empire could have derailed the empire and shattered it back into the, like, 10 beyliks.

Murad II in my opinion is the most underrated ottoman Sultan of all time, he won against 2 crusades in his lifetime

Basically, Bayezid playing with skull "pyramid" kid at Ankara brought the otttoman empire 50 years in the past so Mehmed and Mourad 2 had to spend all their reigns to do the same thing as Orhan and Mourad 1 until Mehmed 2 do what his great grandfather was supposed to do.

Great that you show how depopulated Constantinople was at that time. This was actually an advantage for the remaining inhabitants

From the legend of El Cid, to Shajar al-Durr, to Mehmed I, it is impressive how much history wants to convince us that Weekend at Bernie's is totally possible

The 1422 Siege of Constantinople was a pivotal event in Byzantine and Ottoman history. Technologically, both sides were evenly matched. The Ottomans had just acquired cannons, leveling the playing field.

The siege was lifted due to a rebellion elsewhere in the Ottoman Empire. Sultan Murad II had to deal with this internal threat, forcing him to abandon the siege. This rebellion was backed by regional powers wary of Ottoman resurgence.

Byzantine tradition credits a miraculous intervention for their survival. An apparition reportedly inspired the defenders. Despite this victory, the Byzantine Empire was in decline, facing economic issues and a lack of soldiers. Constantinople would eventually fall in 1453.

Some things we use as Turks
I would like to share proverbs.
If 2 Jews come together, they form a company; If 2 Turks come together, they will establish a state.
If the Turks run out of enemies, they will fight each other. I think these proverbs describe internal rebellions very well.
