I remember being in Basic Infantry Training in Fort Benning in the summer of 1982, and watching the M1. We were able to look at the outside but not allowed to look inside the hatch. It came by us when they were leaving and I’ll never forget the M1 turning its barrel at 90 degrees almost instantly - very impressive!

And the men and women of General Dynamics along with thousands of vendors who built this tank. Finest in the world

I remember at Fort Irwin at night the young tank crew changing an engine and transmission "power pack" by the light of a red filter flashlight. This takes a lot of training and dedication.

Someone needs to go back and do more research for this. This is pulling the Pack, not the engine. It's the engine and transmission, its one unit, you can't just pull the engine by it's self. The M88 is based off the M60 tank and NOT the M1 at all. All M1 tanks not just the M1A2 was designed for engine replacement in theater or in the field. Did this more times than I can count both in the field and theater or Down Range. I do remember pulling the Turret one time in Germany and we had to use 2 M88A1's and they drove the tank out from under the turret and moved the turret ring in place for it to be sat on. We all got a ball bearing from the ring of the turret. Still have mine on my frig.

The crane operator: "Here comes the plane!
QA: "That's not how that works."
The crane operator: "Would be a lot cooler if it did!"
The A-10 and Helicopter guys: all facepalm

Bit tough if you have to service them with a gas axe?

The tanks are delivered with an extra-long hose that reaches all the way to the nearest refinery.

How much time to change the engine ? The Leopard 2 engine can be swapped in a blazing fast 20 minutes.

Whoever made this video, clearly has an issue with staying on topic.

Quickly drifted away from an engine replacement on a tank.

I wanted to see an engine replacement. Not, whatever this video is. And I want my time back.
