Fault found on ENGINE VIBRATION! Dual mass flywheel PROBLEMS! DMF replacement

Engine vibration felt in the cabin, and improper automatic clutch operation were the symptoms this Citroen was coming into our workshop - OGS MECHANICS. We have covered the basics check of the engine management then engine mounts and it was all pointing towards dual mass flywheel problems. This Citroen is equipped with an EGS gearbox, which is a semi-automatic gearbox, a manual gearbox automatically operated.

A dual mass flywheel is an upgrade to a traditional solid flywheel to improve the absorption of violent vibration coming from clutch operation and engine running.

After removing the gearbox we noticed in the first place that flywheel movement was limited as this was blocked in position. Also, the clutch bearing was damaged and there was a lot of metallic debris resulting from the flywheel on the magnet that is used to read the clutch bearing position.

When we removed the clutch plate it was clearly visible the damage on a flywheel how work it was and a piece of centre bush has come out.

A new clutch kit, release bearing, and dual mass flywheel replacement will solve our issues.

This would vibrate even stationary with high revs ? Because i only get vibration around 120 km\h and i change both CV axles, tires are balanced.

I recently replaced the flywheel on my Renault Scenic 2, because the car was shaking very badly with the same frequency as the engine RPM. Interestingly despite the fact that the flywheel was totally worn, stiff and out of balance, it did not make any knocking noises like other vehicles usually do.

Is it normal for the new flywheel to have this much movement, almost the same as the old flywheel?

Great video !
I have question about C4 Picasso 2008 year, when i starting in first gear motor start to little shaking and when he transfer in second and other gears everything is ok, same thing with going backward.
Are this symptoms the same like in your video with flywheel issue?
Thank you.

Is there an exact place to fit the new dual mass flywheel on the crankshaft I'm not putting valeo as the old one and cannot copy the place like the old one, the new flywheel fits every way but I'm not sure whether there is some exact place to put it

Tahnk you for the video. For my 1999 B5 passat 1.9tdi, 81 kw, could be the same? I had vibration for some time, it started, then stopped and now again. Vibration is all the time, idling, under load, driving fast and slow, of course, not always is easy to feel, but it is there. If DMF problem and rest of the clutch somehow is good, do i need to change all clutch mechanism? I cannot only this bearing?

Hi, I have a 2016 Skoda Octavia 120000 km on clock. I have intermittent juddering when accelerating
from a stop. it also occurs occasionally while driving. I was originally concerned it is an issue with the DSG transmission. I have been advised by another Skoda owner that it is to do with the duel mass fly wheel? The issue is intermittent so would a mechanic see an issue with this if it was inspected? Thanks

Could this vibration cause wheel nuts to come loose?

How much would cost all that job with parts on that Citroen?

Very good explanation 👏. But will you install a single solid clutch ..

Have you ever known a new replacement DMF to fail? Took a week to locate a clutch kit for my B8 A4 Audi Quattro, as soon as fitted, noise and vibration was horrible, worse than before.

would a broken (noisy) flywheel affect going into gears? It makes noise while on Park but not while in Neutral. It also somesthimes have vibration while reverse and quite rarely would non engage reverse. would have to restart for it to get reverse sometimes.
