Wizard: There are like a thousand enemies out there

Ranger: Yeah, and I killed eleven of them. You're welcome.

The guy who is casting wish: "I wish I could shoot wooden twigs through the air as good as that guy over there."

Barbarian: you have my axe
Fighter: and my sword
Cleric: and my blessings
Ranger: and my bow but only on every 2nd Tuesday of the first month of the season while in a birch forest against ork zombies.

I feel like at a certain level, rangers should be able to swap out their favored enemy and terrain after long rests.

I prepare the wish spell, once the Ranger shoots an arrow. I will duplicate it hundredfold 😂

This sums up Hawkeye as the movies progressed

Paladin's only have to worry if their enemy is evil.

Rangers have such a niche bonus.

Don't forget that at level 10, rangers get the impressive ability to camouflage themselves, if they have naturally occurring materials to hide themselves with AND have a tree or wall to press themselves against, by spending a full minute and then staying completely still, taking no movement or actions. This gives a +10 to stealth checks! Meanwhile, Pass Without Trace is a 2nd level spell that gives +10 stealth to your whole party, allows them to move, and is accessible to rangers as early as 5th level.

It's really funny to me that the class based around exploration is most optimized to never go out exploring past their comfort zone

Edit: some of you have surprisingly strong feelings about this and yet no one has mentioned that terrain doesn't actually make or break anything combat or damage wise. Expertise on Intelligence and Wisdom checks about the terrain and tracking gives you exact numbers and sizes of creatures, the rest is a lot of travel and foraging perks but I'm sure most DMs skip travel and food mechanics because they are BORING (how good for a story would it be if you got lost on your way somewhere or got food poisoning?). It literally is "I'm an expert o long as we don't stop being in a forest" all that hunting sense goes away the second the soil changes. You go from a forest to a grassland and can no longer track down creatures, it's a really funny shut down of abilities roleplay wise. "Hey, guys, can we go back to the forest? I'm really cool there"
Some of y'all are acting like I'm attacking ranger or that I don't know how to play it and have fully missed the point of what terrain does.
Folks, if I WANTED to drag Ranger I would bring up Primeval Awareness

The Hawkeye dilemma
"The city is flying. The city is flying, and I have a bow and arrow." 😂

Warlock at every level: Guys I’m so sorry I’m out of spell slots can we take an hour short rest?
Warlock at level 20: Give me like 1 minute and I’ll be good.

Wizard: alters reality
Ranger: gets more kills with a bow

This is why you take the options from Tasha’s

I think the coolest way to help Rangers while still keeping the feeling of "guy with bow" would be for them to get ammunition and bow upgrades as they level. Like "you can now use explosive arrows without dying" or "you can now aim ethereal arrows", though it'd be up to the DM to make sure they get some

I mean, now some rangers can just be completely invisible in the dark and cast semi-decent spells, so who's laughing now?

Capstone features are so balanced in 5e

Barbarian: literally break the rules of the world with how buff you are

Cleric: have god on speed dial who would always answer your call and do a favour

Ranger: you get to add up to a +5 to your attack or damage, but only against your favoured enemy, and also only once a turn, let's not get too crazy now

Rangers: I just... I wish there was something more.
Tasha: _Reaches down her hand_ Take two more good subclasses, a new fighting style, and replacements for your niche base options. Go. Prosper.
Rangers: 🥺 Thank you, Mommy.
