Revised Ranger is my favorite non-Tasha's fix, tbh

Revised Ranger, combined with Tasha's optional swap-out for favoured terrain, has created a monster of a character in my group.
He's the only one using standard array admist a sea of 18 and 20 statted characters
and he's the one everyone is scared of.

The phrase you can hunt people is weirdly hilarious to me

I remember when Revised Ranger came out, I adored it, and it’s still probably my favorite form of ranger. PHB ranger is really amazing flavor but not quite right for D&D, and TCoE ranger is a much better fit for the game but also loses a ton of that flavor. Revised Ranger really slots in quite nicely into the game and feels like you’re playing a ranger still, which is why I love it

So, someone finally found out the ranger had been fixed years ago ^^

I always allow to Frankenranger between revised and Tasha's. Also revised ranger primeval awareness doesnt cost a spell slot.

I actually made a fix to Favored Enemy in my homebrew. You could add proficiency twice to hit a Favored Enemy. Only to hit, not to damage. I figured, "You know this creature inside and out, so you know its weak points." Sure, this adds boss numbers at high levels so that you nearly never miss an attack, but at high levels you ought to be a boss yourself.

The unearthed Arcana Revised Ranger is amazing.

I think in order to balance things out, when you choose a humanoid type of enemy you must be limited to 2 types of humanoids (like orcs and goblins, or humans and gnolls) whenever you choose a humanoid favored enemy.
That's how it worked in the old Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale games, anyway.

For me, there is one simple buff for him that would matter a ton: Hunter's Mark is a class feature, castable Prof Mod/Long rest, and it upgrades as the ranger levels up

This is the ranger adaptation of 3.5e to 5e

I ended up retuning rangers into a fighter subclass, trimming the fat of the class while keeping the flavor made for a great option for fighters who wanted to go down a more archer based subclass along with a revised system for pets and companions so they aren’t completely useless in combat

Humanoids being so common is precisely why in third edition humanoid was further broken down into subtypes and you picked the subtype as your favorite enemy.

I've been using revised ranger since I started running D&D 5 years ago. Rangers are currently tied with wizards for the class that sees the most play at my tables and I've never had anyone complain about their power level.

Played a Revised Ranger on a D&D Discord some time back. He was also a Tiefling, specifically the Feral type.

I find that Ranger works fantastic for multiclassing, every subclass has really cool features that can be better exploited by a different class

Thank you! Me and my group have used the revised ranger for YEARS and always wondered why it never passed UA. I really wish more people knew about it.

I'm always going to prefer the "Choose a type of enemy and it will be your prey" mechanic instead of "Well now you always have Hunter's Mark prepared."

Had a friend play this in a game I DM'd, he felt like a useful party member woth his favorite class for once and I've never looked back.
