If I could rip mine off, I would. I absolutely despise the thing.

I’ve had upper and lower permanent retainers for three years and with daily brushing and flossing, have not had this issue with plaque. Also have not had any issues with them breaking or my teeth moving. If you follow your dentist and ortho recs, you most likely wouldn’t have those issues.

I have one! It doesn’t really bother me. Mine hasn’t even broke once, and I have had it for a while! It isn’t a fun visit at the dentist for a cleaning having it though…

I didn’t even have a choice😭 my orthodontist just put one in after I got my braces off

One side of mine broke off last year after having it for ten years. I filed down the cement on the other side and popped it out. Flossing normally was the best feeling ever.

i have a permanent retainer because my teeth were still shifting after braces (and still do) even though since i got them off in august if 2021 and i wear my retainer almost every single night. i might miss a day or so every so often but i still wear it at night as much as i can.

I love having a permanent retainer. I'm terrible at remembering certain things and it's really not that hard to clean

Thank you! I have a permanent retainer on my bottom teeth and I ALWAYS get calculus underneath and it's super hard to get my toothbrush under it to clean!

little story time; i was still doing my braces treatment and unfortunately i had to move to a different state. I ended up getting them off a little too early bc it was inconvenient to drive 11 hours to and from for routine monthly visits. the orthodontic assistant ended up putting in a permanent retainer on the bottom without consulting me about it. only after when i asked about it, i was told it’s permanent and i would not be able to take them off. while getting my top retainer done, another orthodontic assistant did not bother to sand off any of the glue from my teeth after taking off the brackets and put the mold on anyway. my retainer now has bubbles… whole time my orthodontist was in the room and only looked at my teeth once through this whole ordeal and that was when the brackets were removed. there was one other patient in the room having his bands changed.. prior to this, i went to my local orthodontist in the state i was moving to and they informed me that I was not able to transfer treatment to them and the cost to get my braces removed and two retainers were too pricey at the time and my insurance could not cover any of the cost. my treatment in my old town was free… i hate not being able to floss properly through this glued on piece of wire☠️

And I always evaluate the patient oral hygiene before placing one of these in the lower 3-3. I would only place these on a patient with excellent hygiene. You'll know who they are after 24 months of orthodontic treatment.

I had mine for 10 years, it never broke (I eat any kind of food) so my teeth never shifted and I’ve never had problems with plaque. I think this only happens to people with very poor hygiene, I don’t even go to the dentist for deep cleaning as often as recommended...

My orthodontist told me to get a bonded one and didn’t give me a choice. The bonded retainer broke. I switched to the clear removable retainers and they have outlived the bonded one.

I know people who spent thousands of dollars on braces and their teeth started shifting so much after getting them off. The permanent retainer is great. If you want to wear the temporary retainers, you can. But if you dont wear them when you sleep, depending on the person, they can shift again.
