Come Follow Me Insights (Doctrine and Covenants 29, Mar 22-28)

This week, Brent Top joins Taylor and Tyler as they discuss Doctrine and Covenants Section 29. Even though we don't know when the Second Coming will be, we will always be protected and safe as long as we trust in God, follow His prophets, and keep our covenants with Him.

27:19 The signs of the times also provide an opportunity to compare and contrast the blessings to the righteous with the judgments of the wicked.
29:31 D&C 29:7 Who are the “elect”? They “hear my voice and harden not their hearts.” Contrast this with the wicked as those who do not believe and will not repent. (vs 17 and 44).
29:52 Where is the gathering place for Zion?
34:23 The signs of the times have multiple applications. They are both literal and figurative. Quote from Elder M. Russell Ballard. “I do not know when He will come again.”
38:25 Where is our focus? Do we focus on the sensational signs or on the glorious restoration?

40:56 How does someone bearing heaving burdens apply these verses? We can find hope in daily discipleship by looking for and focusing on signs of God’s hand in our lives today.
48:10 D&C 29:30 God understands the full plan. This is a transition verse into the next segment of the revelation pertaining to the premortal war in heaven, the Creation, the Fall, and the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
49:40 Historical setting: Joseph had started the translation of the Bible and one of the first things he received is Moses 1-6 about the Creation and the Fall.
51:15 The rebellion of Satan in the premortal conflict.
55:08 The Creation, The Fall, and the Atonement of Jesus Christ was put into place before the foundation of the world. D&C 29: 36, 40-41 coupled with 2 Nephi 2:5
58:09 D&C 29: 42-43 Angels sent to declare repentance and redemption through faith in Jesus Christ coupled with Moses 5 when an angel teaches Adam and Eve about redemption and keeping their focus on Jesus Christ. The fate of those who do not repent is also explained.
1:00:53 D&C 29:46-48 Little children are redeemed through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. This section begins and ends with affirmations about the loving, merciful, and forgiving nature of Jesus Christ.
1:02:59 Summary: The fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ is being unfolded over time. We can stay focused by spending more time in the words of the Prophets and the scriptures than in what we do not know yet.

T&T Brothers, what a treat and blessing to have Brent Topp join the "Dynamic Duo" to discuss this specific Section. His wealth of knowledge and insights really added to the discussion today. His focus for Section 29 with vs. 3 was sage advice for us to concentrate on "Your Sins are forgiven you so go and sin no more". I do think we tend to get bogged down with the middle verses of Sec 29 with all the Apocalyptic descriptive phrases but the Bookend parts of the beginning and the end of Christ's Mercy should be our focus in this section. For me, the hinge point for this section is AGENCY dovetailing with 2nd Nephi 2 !!
