8:32 Learn more about the dark side of zinc!

Let’s talk about zinc. Zinc is involved in 300 different enzymes and over 1000 factors related to DNA.

Zinc is involved in your sleep cycles, cognitive function, and making neurotransmitters. Having low zinc increases your risk of diabetes.

Zinc also makes up an important group of antioxidants involved with your brain, heart, and muscles. It even helps reduce oxidative stress involved with the mitochondria.

Instead of masking a symptom related to zinc deficiency or any other health issue, it's crucial to get to the deeper problem to help prevent further concerns. Learning how to support a healthy body and avoid health issues or recognize the early stages of one is much more simple than trying to fight a health problem.

Side effects of advanced zinc deficiency can include:
• Loss of appetite
• Necrosis
• Ulcers
• Hypogonadism
• Low testosterone
• Thymus atrophy
• High cortisol
• Muscle loss

The organ that is most affected by zinc deficiency is the pancreas. The most common early sign of zinc deficiency is foul-smelling stool that floats.

Other early signs of zinc deficiency include:
• Shortness of breath upon exertion
• Cramping
• Diarrhea
• Abdominal pain
• Bloating

Top causes of zinc deficiency:
• Lack of zinc in the diet
• Malabsorption
• Inflammation in the gut
• Phytates or phytic acid (grains)
• Consuming sugar
• Diabetes
• Stress
• Drinking alcohol
• Infection

Foods rich in zinc:
1. Oysters
2. Crab
3. Other shellfish
4. Meats
5. Fish
6. Nuts

Fantastic video, and right on time. I was just taking my morning zinc and having my "4 to 5" eggs. I think I've found my sweet spot around 25mg/d. I get energy, clear skin, and an all around good feeling, without any negative side effects. I'm glad that you're putting this information out there. I feel like zinc deficiency is the number one nutritional crisis in America.

I think this was one of the most brilliant videos that you have ever produced. I was aware of the importance of Zinc but not in the details that you explained. I do try to have a balanced diet, many of the foods mentioned I do consume, I have also been taking Zinc supplements for a few years, but as you showed, the FDA doesn't allow you to say that it helps to prevent any disease, even though we all know the truth. Best wishes Dr Berg, it's just unbelievable how much I have been learning from your videos!

Thanks for the tip about the original book from Sun Tzu: The technology of war. I had no clue about that. But as with many great works, they tend to be diluted at best, and worst case they get manipulated.

Also, the reference to that book is very clever in the bigger picture. About what is happening in the world in relation to knowledge and advice about health, nutrition and medicine.

I've list 25kgs in 6 months because of keto and omad. Thank you Dr Berg. Pre diabetic symptoms totally reversed one to note was the annoying fortnightly carbuncles/boils that I kept on getting for almost 3 years it was mentally frustrating. I'm forever grateful
I tested this keto and omad to prove it wrong and it worked. So many health benefits to this diet
I have more energy, I'm sharp at work, urination frequency now normal, no more cracks in feet, even toned skin and glowing skin, big nose shrunk the puffiness has gone, wounds quickly heal, nomore dry mouth, stress no longer consumer's my body, my blood pressure is normal from being borderline hypertensive, [I also started lugols iodine for adenomyosis and 3 year bleeding everyday, i think im seeing changes and using the salt protocal (referring to the iodine crisis)]

It is very true, rarely any doctor wants to work on prevention. Most doctors just treat the problems at the time of the appointment. It is just adding a small bandaid to a big cut.
