🤔Which one do you think is harder?

I’l start the answer with 2 comments I got when I posted this on instagram as it will set the framework for the rest:

✅ “I think in this scenario harder becomes subjective”

✅ “The trap is to think that it is a binary answer”

As many of you stated, if you have the required mobility and compression strength (hamstring flexibility + hip flexor strength + abs strength + spinal flexion), the “Compressed MU” it’s technically easier — at least strength wise.

If you don’t have enough compression, not only the Compressed MU is harder, but technically impossible to perform. You could “cheat” this by closing the shoulders and still get the toes to the bar (sort of like and L-Front Lever) and perform more of a rowing movement, rather than a vertical pull. I’d have to test the difficulty of this one.

After trying both versions back to back on the same day, the straight body MU was 2-3x harder than the compressed one (for me). The strength needed is much higher, the path it’s longer, and the transition much harder.

Also worth considering that the compressed version requires a bit more coordination and overall body awareness to not loose the compression (or close the shoulders too soon and turn it into an inverted row as mentioned before).

💭 So which one is harder?

It depends on your definition of “harder”, your mobility, and your overall pulling strength.

That’s pretty much it! If you have further thoughts on this please feel free to share them bellow! Appreciate you all who participated 🙏🏽
