The Death of Stalin was hilarious, and the movie of the same name was pretty good too

It gets even funnier. When they finally found him, he still had vital signs and they tried to fetch a doctor. However because Stalin had purged the doctors in suspicion of trying to poison him, there were very few who were immediately on hand to treat him. By the time they did find a doctor, it was too late due to the various delays.

It's probably a good thing that the guards didn't check on him, because if they did and he survived then Stalin would've killed them anyway for not checking sooner.

My favorite part of this whole ordeal is how after the coup and everything, Stalin’s daughter is moved to Vienna for her protection. She would then later defect to the United States and move to Wisconsin and change her name. Which means there is a chance that the actual daughter of Joseph Stalin was a GB Packers fan

The movie takes a lot of historic liberties, has frequent usage of incorrect terms/labels, and has some outright errors..but my god does it capture something special about the real historical actors and the extreme oddities of the post-WW2 USSR.

“Veep, but with the real life Politburo” is an idea almost too good to be real, let alone in such a great work. All of its problems aside it is one of my favorites.

When I found out Stalin died of “natural causes” after all he did, I was disappointed.
But after finding out the circumstances of his death, the idea that he was laying semi conscious in a puddle of his own piss (and most likely poo aswell) for a whole day gives me some satisfaction.
The idea that during that time maybe some of the people he killed may have come back to him in visions and haunted him. And the idea that he may have even attempted to call for help but couldn’t alert the guards (who may have even heard Stalin’s distress but chose not to intervene, not just out of fear but also out of spite) gives me satisfaction too

I know that Stalin’s reign is much more complicated that just black and white. That a country as huge, rough and underdeveloped as Russia was must have been a nightmare to keep in check and that tough decisions needed to be made for the the good of the country but even the most die hard Stalin fan must admit that he went too far…
