DO NOT DELETE YOURSELF FROM MINECRAFT...

What happens if you delete a Minecraft world while you're playing on it? Usually that shouldn't be possible!! But I did it anyway. In newer versions of the game, it's pretty much SAFE- but in older versions, it can corrupt your world data and give you some silly looking terrain. So I definitely don't recommend doing this to a world you care about :P

Enjoy! :D

1:03 for those who doesn't know why minecraft din't crash i think its because of cache memory (im not really sure), essentially the world file is still stored in the cache memory in minecraft that's why it din't crash and will only be gone once minecraft closes.

"This is totally safe!" Squiddo says cheerily as the game is corrupting around them, screeching in agony at the conflicting instructions.

It's totally safe.

The reason it still exists, is because the map had already been loaded into memory, and deleting the actual file would only come into effect as soon as the game actually needs to access the file data

the issue with this is that nowadays in order to prevent crashes like that, alot of the world is either saved in a temporary backup, and/or just loads your entire world into RAM which is something you cant normally access, and litterally just allows you to delete files and the computer still remebers it because its saved into ram. i strongly advise trying to mess with ram since data in there is flying around randomly and there is more than a good chance you will brick your computer.

6:22 we're guessing what's happening here is the fact that when you pause the game, the world autosaves! this is defs a thing in modern mc and it might be in that version too :)

probably something to do with how memory keeps stuff saved while you’re playing even if storage files are deleted :) Think of Microsoft Word—nothing is saved until you press save, but it retains all of the new informattion anyways.

I've always believed you, no matter what. Weird thing can happen, especially in older versions.
Edit: on the trees and mobs thing

Hey so, i think i know how the off screen bug happened, maybe you were doing some testing earlier and deleted a file that was the general Minecraft collision cells detection. Which made it so that mobs only stopped falling when they were INSIDE the floor instead of touching the floor, but the trees having one block missing may have been a result of something else like data structure being corrupted or smth.

Edit: forgot to mention but Minecraft mobs may turn black when they're overlapping with blocks, you can see it for yourself even in the newest versions of the game.

The „saving world….” feature was added back to 1.18 after getting removed later in beta 1.2/1.3 .

my guess for why nothing happened when deleting the data while in the world is that the chunks you're in are loaded into your ram, and are re-saved whenever you try to delete the save data. I'd imagine doing something in a chunk, leaving that chunk, deleting the data and going back to the chunk might reset it (if it doesn't then the entire save data is being loaded into your ram). I don't actually know if anything I said is true since I don't work at mojang or have any game dev experience so I'm sorry if I'm spreading misinformation.

Squiddo has inspired me to try and delete THIS world while I’m still inside it!I’ll see how that goes!
