How to safely remove your personal information from the internet

It's not a good feeling when you Google yourself and a bunch of personal information comes up. This may be information you don't want to be accessible to the public. So, how can you remove it? Consumer Reports says there are several steps you can take to help guard your identity.

Isn’t this information collection buried in end user license agreements for any and all social media that you use? Is the only way to be successful in this to delete all social media and then do this?
