0:06 people don’t wanna delete social media because they feel they’ll “miss out” but they’re not realizing they’re actually missing out on life itself.

I fear that when I die I won't see memories in front of my eyes but thousands of reels

The part "scrolling through your photos" is so real

The fact that this felt so accurate. Deleted Instagram and tiktok and i found myself visiting my gmail every 10 minutes😂

side note: having no socials etc makes you more interesting. People don't know what you've been doing so you have more to talk about with people

Saddest thing is seeing the older generation waste their remaining years just staring at their phone. No final goals and dreams just wasting their remaining years glued to social media

I don’t want to die and realize that I’ve been watching videos for half my life or more. I want to live in the other 50% now

getting off social media gave me the mental space to create so much change in my life. started reading books, going on bike rides, simply spending time outside with my dogs, learning guitar, knitting. literally became so much easier to do the things i've always yearned to do without the incessant and uncontrollable urge to go on social media and waste away so much precious time. my brain definitely tried to convince me not to delete it and i even have cravings to re-download it at times, seriously feels like trying to overcome a drug addition

To add to this: stop constantly listening to or watching things „in the background“ while doing other tasks. It doesn’t matter if it’s podcasts, audiobooks, YouTube, etc. You may feel like you‘re being „more productive“ or „multitasking“ but most of the time it is just noise that clouds your mind and numbs your thoughts. Embrace the silence.

Edit: To clarify, I am not saying never, ever listen to things or that it is always bad to have something on in the background. I'm just suggesting to be more mindful of your consumption and to also allow for periods of silence from time to time during which you can experience your thoughts and emotions more clearly.

“You’ll feel like a kid again” is the perfect description. I did this for 6 months and it was the best decision I ever took. You can seriously turn your life around by doing this.

We all deleted our social media accounts but we’d never give up YouTube. It’s pretty much impossible

"You'll feel like a kid again" is a very good description. I took a week-long phone detox and I was outside SO MUCH. You know those morning doves you'd always wake up to as a kid? I started hearing them again. I started just listening more to my surroundings. Observing. Watching the birds and learning their calls. Watching the ants build their hills. It makes you realize just how wonderful and interesting the little things in life are!

I deleted all of my social media for 9 months at the beginning of 2023 and it was THE BEST decision I’ve ever made. I went to college and downloaded everything again but after a month I decided to be done for good. It’s so toxic and the attention rush never ends. I’m finally reading long books, watching movies, and finishing tv shows again. As well as playing outside or just going on walks or journaling. Deleting social media was literally what saved my life. I highly recommend! Also, great video, thank you :)

Best decision ever. I made it because I felt deeply depressed, but I’m so happy now. Also started meditating and exercising, which also contributed to me being happier and more aware. Being present is life changing and it’s sad that social media is taking that away from people… I also started painting which I recommend a lot !! It’s very therapeutic 🌱🧘🏼✨

One thing that held me back was the fear of not understanding my friends' conversations, not having topics to talk about, not getting the latest jokes, and overall feeling out of touch. If you're going through the same thing, don't worry. As the days, weeks, and months go by without any social media, you realize how useless they are. There comes a point where, if you were tempted to download them again, create an account, and commit to using them, you simply have no interest. They bore you, just like the first time you ever tried them. Because that's what they are—boring. The idea that "oh, if I don't have social media, I'll be left out of everything that's happening" is a lie to keep you consuming. Trends and memes are so momentary that they don't even have an impact on real life. Unless you hang out with other people who are chronically online, who can't talk about anything other than the content they consume on the internet, quitting social media won't have any negative impact

Here i was feeling dumb that instagram had such a grip over my self-esteem, you made me realize that it's just a toxic app and that it doesnt really matter after all
