I met Denise (Vanity) when she was a Pastor and she went through so much physically and spiritually 😔

I had the most beautiful unusual encounter with "Vanity"...real name I met Denise Matthews...at my former church about 20 years ago. She was the guest speaker for an evening service. She was giving her testimony of overcoming and deliverance from drugs...and her health issues and healing from chronic kidney disease. I am an RN and at the time in charge of our church health ministry. After service I got to speak with her for about 5 minutes an intimate conversation...we sat on the edge of the stairs leading up to the pulpit. First, I was struck with her inner beauty of love of Christ...but outwardly I saw one of the most beautiful woman I have ever seen designed by God in my life. Now mind you I have been told I am a pretty lady...but Sister Matthews was just stunning. I will never forget that I got to sit and talk with who the wolrd knew as "Vanity"...but I just had a conversation with another Sister in Christ. RIP in Jesus arms Sister Matthews until we meet

The 1 thing I admired about Vanity was the fact that she owned up to the mistakes she made in life . Unlike a lot of stars, she didn't blame others for her addictions, nor did she wallow in self pity like a lot of them do . And she went through enough pure hell from the men in her life to write 3 Lifetime movies ! I'm so glad she found her inner peace in the Lord .

I spoke to Vanity a few times on the phone about six months prior to her death. I had ordered her book and it did not arrive. I sent the website an email saying "Where's my book?" And my email had my telephone number on the signature block and Denise called me. I looked at my phone and the caller ID said Denise Matthews. We spoke on the phone and I reassured her that the book did not arrive. That I was not trying to get a free second book. She re-sent the book and she and I talked a few more times. She told me that she thought I was an excellent writer in the stories I shared with her in emails. Wow, what a compliment. We were going to meet as she lived very near me, but that never happened and then she was gone.

Vanity was diagnosed with Peritonitis NOT Periodontal or “gum” disease! Also, Vanity turned down the offer to be in Purple Rain because the money wasn’t right and she was too busy recording her solo album ‘Wild Animal’ and was about to begin filming ‘The Last Dragon’ which was a big hit! yes Apollonia was in Purple Rain but that’s only because Vanity turned it down and left that spot opened for her to fill in. Apollonia played Vanity! The movie was based on Prince and Vanity’s love story.

That part about Vanity pretending to be Apollonia is strange. I don't doubt Vanity might have tried something like that out of spite, especially considering she was coked out of her mind at the time, but the men she was sleeping with would absolutely have been able to tell the difference between her and Apollonia.

What I love about Vanity aka Denise is that she gave her life to Christ and never looked back on it . No better feeling then giving your lord Savior Jesus your life . One of the finest woman to grace Prince arm . They were soulmates . Died two months apart . Now they are together as one .

I don't think Vanity was upset She didn't Star in Purple Rain. She Quit. She didn't have 2 play in Purple Rain. "SHE LIVED IT"! Apollonia was pretending.... acting the part. Vanity was really with the dude 4 a while. Real life goes deeper than a Movie. And I bet a Movie can't come close 2 what was really going on with those 2. What Denise seemed more disappointed about. Her relationship with Prince didn't work out.
