Apollonia on Prince, Purple Rain, Rick James, Vanity, JFK Jr., Dave Chappelle (Full Interview)

Famed entertainer Apollonia came through for her first-ever VladTV interview, where she detailed getting into acting and appearing on big network TV shows and then being in various music videos. From there, Apollonia spoke about working on Prince’s “Purple Rain” movie and feeling like she was rich after being paid $3,000- and she admits she hasn’t received many royalties from the film. Speaking more about Prince, Apollonia stated that they never had a romantic relationship, and she added that the late entertainer treated her like a mother. Apollonia went on to speak about her music career and trying to reconnect with Prince over the years, which you can hear more about in the full interview above.

She is so intelligent and honest and appears to have excellent recall with names, dates and places. Me, my boyfriend, and all my friends (white, Japanese, Mexican) all went to see Purple Rain when it came and out and none of us...none of us...thought it was "weird" or off-putting to see the film to see people of color staring in the film, to see them being successful, or winning awards. It wasn't even a thought, much less a discussion.

I think we pretty much saw them as wildly talented artists. We loved the movie. We bought Prince's music, knew all the lyrics, same for Morris Day and the Time, and even Apolonia and Vanity. For us, it was never about race, it was just great, fun music.

Prince may be the greatest to have lived in my lifetime. No one even comes a close second.

I recall meeting her at her Brother's graduation from Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Bootcamp in San Diego, CA. She was a real person and very approachable. This was between 1984-1986. She had every reason to be " Stuckup" but she was the total opposite.

One of the highlights of my tour as an Drill Instructor in the Marine Corps.
