Probiotics are bacteria that you eat, which sounds like a silly thing to do. But when ingested, these good bacteria get planted in your gut where they help with everything from building a strong immune system to calming bloating after a meal.

Researchers have found that the bacteria living in the gut of an obese person is different than that of a lean person. This observation has led to speculation that a healthy gut means a healthy weight.

Was on antibiotics for a week, became fatigued and hungry constantly, started taking probiotics several days ago- appetite has decreased.

I started taking probiotics just a few weeks ago and while I cant attest to weight loss I can tell you that my bloating alone has gone down significantly. I took it for gut health bc I was having IBS symptoms but drs said it was not full on IBS and to take them to see if it helped. I am getting the classic side effects of gas and loose stool right now as its early on and they said should balance out over time. However, I started to pass the bloating stage and my husband looked at me and went "are you losing weight?" I do not believe I am losing fat just yet but the bloating I suffer with has gone down dramatically which was my goal in taking them In the first place.

This topic about gut bacteria is so important! Could you, please review sweeteners based on how they alter gut bacteria? I've been using saccharin for 20 years and I just read a study, according to which it alters gut bacteria in a bad way. In the end, it is possible that sweeteners cause the very problem they are used against!

I check the ingredients on almost everything I even think about buying! But when I buy probiotics I do not! So thanks for that suggestion.
Also appreciated the clear, simple and perfectly repeated info about the relationship between prebiotics and probiotics!

You def are my go to advice person. Very helpful. Just to say i recently started these and since i have my weight has started to move and my colon is working properly again..if you catch my drift. I do have an underactive thyroid and am on wharfrin and my meds aren't bothered by these either. Collards are ok in very small amounts due to vitamin k so i eat nuts and other veg and its all working well.
