I’m sold. This is very relevant in the age of M1- I got to get one of these. Will last me a good 10 years for sure.

Just added 128gb to my iMac today and can already see the difference in performance.

I added a 32 meg to my existing 16+16 meg today, the screen goes black when you power on but then does a normal restart, just be patient! The important point here is to be careful handling the ram cards and also I’m going to reorder them because they dropped to 2.1 he instead of 2.67 hz.
Thanks for a good video.

Apple reccommends that you have ram cards of same size so if you have a 32 gb ram, remove the 4 gb rams it came with.

I changed the sequence of the cards to the two 16 gig in slots 1 and2 with slot 4 having the 32gig card, the speed then went up to 2.667 MHz on all cards.

Just installed two 32 GB sticks.
I can hear the Mac booting up.

…. but, now I’ve still got a black screen. 😢

Thanks for this video Jerry. I just installed 32GB in my new 2020 iMac 27" and it went smoothly. I did not leave the 8GB cards in there because I had read somewhere on y ou tube that it would slow down the system. Whether or not that is true, I don't know because I'm far from a computer whiz. So I didn't want to try it and then have to unhook cables again and go through the machinations of you know.

I purchased the identical i Mac identical to yours . I 5 processor
520 Gb Of HD space .
I was about to order one 2020 27in from the Apple store and I thought for the heck of it I will try Amazon for a price check . I purchased it for exactly $200 cheaper than the Apple store. Plus Apple still gives you warranty and assistance as if you bought it from them

No Tax .... then I purchased two external Hard drive . 2, T each
One for time Machine and other for pics . I am
Putting two sticks of 16 Gb of Ram in today . With the onboard Ram in the correct positions that should take it 40Gb Ram . Check other sources first before you buy Refurbished units .
I’m not knocking Referbs . However one may have a better choice in some cases . 200. 00 in savings paid For some of the other peripheral devices I needed. Amazon shipped it in two days.

I hear on the 2020 model, if you mix and match RAM using the original 2x4 sticks and new 2x16 sticks in a slot configuration 16-4-16-4, your RAM will down-speed to 2133 MHz. But if you install it 4-4-16-16, you'll get the full 2666 MHz speed.

So my question is this: what's better?

1. Install 40 GB in 16-4-16-4 configuration but get 2133 MHz speed (dual-channel config)
2. Install 40 GB in 4-4-16-16 configuration and get full 2666 MHz speed (single channel config)
3. Remove the factory 2x4 stick and just install two new 16 sticks in slots 2 and 4 for 32 GB total (dual-channel config)

Remove the 8GB and it will be even quicker! Different sizes slow it down.

Ram Slot Config
Thank you for the in depth tutorial excellen, , Hold on! Most importantly you do not mention the ram slot configuration? Very odd did I miss something
leaving the most important info out is remarkable
So at a guess for all those left in the dark on that point go slot one 16- slot two. 4- Repeat 16- 4

I would appreciate suggestions to this question:

I have 2 PNY 1600 8GB Ram sticks with C11 Latency. I want to buy 2 additional 8GB Ram sticks. Cost isn’t a factor.

Should I buy:

2 Motoeagle 1600 8GB with C7 Latency

or

2 PNY identical to the 2 that I am already using
