I really enjoy the Chosen series but I have to agree with you. A person that knows the Bible can distinguish between what's entertainment vs the Word. But...I can see where certain aspects of it can be misleading to someone that is seeking Christ.
Don't let the Chosen be your Bible. ❤✝️✝️✝️

When I was younger I used to watched Touched by an angel and my mom would always say, no matter how much you learn from the show you will always learn more from the Bible so don't make it your Bible

If you listen to Dallas Jenkins, he says he’s not replacing Scripture. His goal is for people to watch, and then desire to read the Bible more, which definitely worked on me. Plus dramatic retellings of history are never going to be 100% accurate.

Weirdly, one of my biggest concerns with the chosen is the amount of people I've heard saying that the chosen brought them back to God, or made them "fall in love with Jesus again." I'm not concerned that they are coming back to God or faith or whatever, I'm concerned because the Jesus of the chosen is not the actual Jesus, but merely the creative team's interpretation of the actual Jesus. And I fear many people are drawn to/devoted to the creative team's interpretation of Christ, rather than Christ Himself.

If the Chosen is the catalyst that brings you back to God, that's fantastic. But the real Jesus isn't the one revealed in the show; the real Jesus is the one revealed in the Bible.

Imagine all the non-Christians who heard the words of Jesus for the first time because of the Chosen. No human representation of the divine is perfect. And it doesn't have to be. The Chosen is leading people to God, who is perfect.

My wife and i really enjoy the series, there are of course certain things that are not perfect. But we actually moved closer to God, joined a Christian church and started reading our Bibles cover to cover. The chosen renewed our faith and encouraged us to become more active Christians.
Idolizing the Actors is a problem, but that is a personal matter. I think if it helps people connect with Jesus and consider a faith life its doing is job as intended. The Holy Spirit will sort it out for those with a true heart. But we as a church also need to be more vocal about the gospels in our own neighborhoods.

God’s Word is enough. We don’t need anything added to it or taken away from it.

There's this interesting thing a brazilian girl said a couple months ago on her christian youtube channel. She said there's probably a good reason why Jesus was born 2000 years ago when there were no camera's or even painters. Otherwise people might make a picture of Him and glorify the picture.

I would love the story if they went into Acts. Then we wouldn’t have the issues with putting words in Jesus’ mouth or praying to Jonathan Roumie.

My take is that it is always better to make an original story with Christian themes (i.e. C.S. Lewis or J.R.R. Tolkien) than to make an adaptation of The Bible. Making The Bible itself into entertainment inherently waters it down and it is just better as a Christian artist to lead people to the glorious and inerrant Bible than to try and adapt it yourself as a flawed and fallen human who lacks the same exact Godly inspiration the Biblical writers had. Christian artists can and should honor God through their output, but The Bible itself is not entertainment and it is foolhardy to try and create your own version of it. God bless you and your ministry as always.

As long as someone can comprehend the chosen as ENTERTAINMENT, I think its great. And I think a cool consequence of that is that 'fan fiction' tendencies tend to turn people to studying the bible more. Dozens of times while watching the chosen, I'll question if something is biblical and discover something they pulled from in the bible that went over my head in the past. I think in reality, everybody has a cultural image or predisposition they attach to Jesus, even while just reading their bible. Discernment is required when weighing all types of cultural, pastoral, and theological commentary on scripture.

As someone who is confident enough to distinguish entertainment and word in The Chosen, I really appreciate how the show makes you see the people of the Bible a little more human. But I took for granted that I understand not alot of that should be treated as separate from the word.

Thank you for this video. It helped me to realize if I show or talk about this show with non believers or new believers that I need to express the differences.

It helped me pick up my Bible daily and search it for myself. If we keep the Word in our heart its easier to discern fiction from truth.

It's *never* ok to "put words in God's mouth".

Period.

I agree with you on everything! Ever since the chosen came out I’ve been conflicted the whole time.. but always used discernment when watching and never let it replace the Bible or get into my head when praying and stuff

The chosen is great. Before the first episode begins, they display message of what the show aims to do and encourages you to read your Bible.

The problem with the Chosen is it humanizes Jesus. He was man and God, but being fully God He had full certainty on what He was going to do.

I've kind of gone back and forth on this myself. I've landed on basically viewing the Chosen as a paraphrase, similar to The Message by Eugene Peterson. It can help better imagine what we're reading, but it shouldn't be a main source that you base theology or anything like that on.
