Sleep is a really important component of improving metabolic health. I got to sit down with Dr. Colleen McClung to learn more about why sleep is so important and how improving sleep and circadian rhythms can improve mental health (and metabolic health!). Dr. McClung is a Professor of Psychiatry and Clinical and Translational Science at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

Thank you so much Dr. McClung for joining us and for the valuable work you are doing!

They looked forward to that sleep with joy, but without haste, not pining for it, but seeming to have a foretaste of it in their hearts, of which they talked to one another. But when they looked at me with their sweet eyes full of love, when I felt that in their presence my heart, too, became as innocent and just as theirs, the feeling of the fullness of life took my breath away, and I worshipped them in silence. Their children were the children of all, for they all made up one family.

Sleep is not just extreme pleasure. Sleep is the realization of immortality and the realization that everything is heaven. When you realize that, it's so good, it's infinitely good. It's not just good. It's good to the infinite degree. It's so much goodness that you can't contain it. your body can't hold it. Your entire body shakes and shudders in a cosmic orgasm of bliss. It's perfection. It's total peace. It's absolute love, that's truly sleep.

Thank you for your work. The ketogenic diet surely worked to improve mood swings particularly after tapering some of the medications (at least when suffering from schizoaffective disorder). Keto numbers are 2.0 and often times above it for the past 10 months. However, there has been no impact in terms of amount of sleep or circadian rhythm and it’s been impossible to improve. Lauren, did you have problems like sleeping 3 hours one day and 15 the next? Did you have nights where you didn’t sleep. If so, how did you address it, did your husband help you, how? Thanks again for all your work. It’s very much appreciate it.

Sleep plays a crucial role in mental health by allowing the brain to undergo essential processes. During Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep, the brain clears out excess information and toxins, leading to that refreshed feeling upon waking. Without this 'clean-up, ' our mental and physical performance can suffer. Adding a morning routine, like a cup of coffee, can enhance alertness but shouldn't replace the need for quality sleep. It's important to prioritize good sleep hygiene for overall well-being, And excellent day to you and your provider 😊😊

What does it mean when you wake up after every dream? (ie, when a dream ends, I wake up). I have sleep disorders and take medications for them, but still have not had a full night's sleep in almost 20 years. I practice sleep hygiene also, but it doesn't seem to have an effect.

Practicing meditation and yoga nidra can help the mind restore itself when your sleep isn’t optimal the night before. 👍🏼

Constant rumination, scenario play and inner dialogue (not monologue) keeps me awake at night. This, and fear of being cuckolded, or people sneaking in to my house.

Hmm, i found no book, or tickets fir a 'conference', however i have to say, the lack of truth regarding metabolism, stomach and how theze poisons work, make me suspicious
