Autodesk have announced updated versions of 3ds Max and Maya 2023... both pretty nice releases. On top of that, they also released new icons that will give Adobe a run for the money for worst logos...

For design and artsy companies, Adobe and Autodesk sure know how to give examples on how NOT to design logos

It’s actually worse than Adobe’s updated icons.

Plus isn’t every icon update getting less and less of details each time?

Kudos to the design companies that pocketed millions of dollars for this terrible terrible logos

The conversion from the old substance icons to the new adobe ones made ve very sad.. but they've treated that team very well so I can live with it.

I kinda miss the little gray Maya dragon or the quirky looking one before that :( also wish they would add both gltf and USD on both so we don't have to switch between the two

USD its already in 3dsmax in form of an open Beta. Any max user can download the USD implementation.

I stopped using 3dsmax in an attempt to learn maya. Then Blender and Now I find BLENDER, a program I always hated, being really good.
This re branding is also why I don't want to use autodesk products anymore. they are behind the curve and over priced and they dont know what there doing anymore

Crappy icons and meh updates (as expected) compared to Blender updates. I've been using Maya since 1.0 in mid 1998 and Maya updates have been dull since at least Maya 2010. The big vfx companies don't want too many changes to Maya, because that would probably destroy all their in-house tools and scripts. Which makes Maya outdated for the rest of us. Sigh. But, Blender 3.1 to the rescue. <3

adobe and autodesk softwares, (although capable softwares) suffer from a massive drought of tutorials and information on their usage. this is due to the massive initial cost of these softwares, and the extremely unfriendly anti-consumer practices, like subscription-only models where you are unable to actually own the software, or are forced to buy cheaper "student" software versions which sneakily cannot be used for commercial use.

due to Blender being free, and therefore, the massive amount of freely available tutorials being available for Blender, it is quickly becoming the better option for beginners. for people looking to transfer away from photoshop, we have softwares like Krita which can do similar things.

these logos just show how hilariously out of touch both of these companies are to their product, and to their consumers.

Once again blender had support years ago for this. GLTF was added over 2 years ago and Blender also added USD last year. So glad I dropped M aya 2 years ago and picked up Blender when I needed GLTF export for a project, have since ditched M aya and saved a bunch of cash and still get everything done that I need to do. I hated the Blender UI for years but they fixed it in 2.8 and it is turning into an industry trendsetter. Cloth brush was in Blender before Zbrush for another example.

Fun Fact, AYA in Arabic and Hebrew mean "The sign". or it is also translate to "verse"

CDN$2330/year. probably not too much went to the icon design budget.

Logos should have been similar to the new autodesk logo. These have no identity. Just corporate stamps. I wonder what the new Unreal logo will look like? Anyway, Maya is awesome. Great for Python and c++ programming.

Hate the Adobe icon update from years back, I still struggle with finding what program is what from the icon alone - especially Substance Painter and Designer.
I don't like the new Autodesk icons, but don't hate them either - I think because they're not app icons, they look exactly like file type icons. At least I can spot the correct pinned app on my taskbar or in the start menu with Max, but I'm tempted to set the old icon on Max

I've enjoyed the updates for Max over the last year or so, most new things aren't that flashy but from an end user point of view Max feels faster (last few updates have been improving even save and file compression times which I couldn't have seen as something on the older Autodesk roadmap. Not exactly eye grabbing features!), more stable and getting back to the "good old days" of it being a great modelling tool. It felt like a long period of time where Max's bread and butter had grown stagnant, and that old reliable tools were becoming flaky and, well too old next to certain competitors. Max has had working pivots for a while, but the use and implementation was clunky to the point of rarely being used by me - but this new implementation looks really great, even if catching up to competitors (and lets be honest, if you work with people who use other 3d packages you're always blown away by some simple and straight forward feature your package has had for ever but the other doesn't. I know in my team the Maya vs. Max vs. Blender jabs often end in a surprising "wait, you can't do that?")

I hope they continue to spend time polishing the tools and work flows that get used the most while adding in some new, exciting improvements, rather than the older new feature out the door and tough luck if it doesn't work great...oh, and by the way we also broke existing tools in the process.

The Great Resignation probably affected their design and marketing team.
The janitor and CTO has to join forces for this rebranding.

Looks of the logo aside, could it be that the bottom line text of each icon is each app's project file extension? never used any of those but it's the only idea that comes to mind.

Can someone who used it confirm? I'm just curious about it.
