Milk is itself a meal. It can be taken as a replacement of a meal or it can be taken with the meal also. In some parts of India milk is the part of the meal. There is no such thing that we have to wait for sometime to take milk after meal. Some culture say that you don’t take milk immediately after taking curd. However as a nutritionist I would say that suppose you take milk and you vomit immediately it comes in the curd form only. So as it goes into the stomach the stomach acids make the milk curdle. It is okay to take curd and milk or curd and ghee together. It doesn’t make any difference. Milk adds extra proteins and calcium to your diet. Milk products are the only source of calcium in your diet. I glass of milk gives 200 grams of calcium approximately. So it should be taken in more amount. So three to four servings of milk or curd or cheese or paneer etc. Milk and milk products should comprise approximately 22% of the diet. You can drink milk at anytime. In our culture drinking milk half an hour before bed time is widely practiced. It is just because the milk keeps up the protein supply constantly. So when we wake up we are not too much protein and calcium deprived. So stay healthy.
