Standing Bow Drill Friction Fire With A Wooden Spoon

Показать описание
It takes a certain amount of downward pressure to hold the bearing block and spindle and fire board together while you are driving the spindle with the bow. Most of the time that's too much downward pressure for a small spindle to perform normally. Small spindles tend to drill right through the fire board so fast that it doesn't create enough heat nor the right kind of dust for ignition.
If you can't avoid using such a small spindle then make sure your bearing block is as slick as possible, your bowstring is as loose as possible, and that you divot is well down inside the fireboard... then apply light downward pressure while bow drilling.
Today, I revisit the Wooden Spoon Bow Drill Friction Fire that I last did several years ago... Yes, it's just a frivolous example of bow drill in general, but a great lesson in how to deal with small diameter spindles.
