Why You Should Buy A BMW M140i! | Driven+

The BMW M140i is BMW’s last ‘proper’ hot hatchback. Straight six engine and rear wheel drive format. And it still massively stands out today.

Its competitors such as the Audi RS3 and Mercedes A45 are great cars but there’s something special about the M140i.

Massive thanks to Tom for the car and please leave a like on the video and subscribe for more!

Had my 2019 shadow edition for just over a week now, having that B58 in a little red 3dr hatchback is insane and I love it. She’s a keeper.

Had my M240i for 2 and a half years now, couldn't be happier. The M140 and 240i can't be beaten for the money.

I’m
Getting about 35 in a city (hilly city) on a motorway I’m getting much much more from it. Drive it sensible and you’ll get good MPG’s. The looks and comments I get makes
Me proud to
Own it.

They are a great all rounder, especially at stage 1. Wouldnt worry too much about the 0-60mph times, the midrange is where this car shines 👍

The timer looked like it was lagging if it was a GPS version. I bet this pushes faster than 4.5 seconds 0-60 😮

Came from 335d and 2.8 E30 which i sold a couple month ago, test drove a 530e which was boring then shadow edition m140i (440bhp) which i bought.
Test drove golf r and a45 and focus rs, found the 4wd quite boring like my 335d even though they grip and pull hard anyone can mash a pedal, the noise from the b58 sounds better as well and im already looking at more power mods.

Pre-2018 is the one to get. Owned mine since new. Sounds unbelievable with MPERFORMANCE exhaust.

Jumped from a 2016 M135i to a 2019 Motech edition M140i earlier this year. They are all fabulous cars, the straight six soundtrack is spectacular, but as stock they can get quite floaty when you are hustling the car. They really benefit from getting the suspension sorted as you point out, plus the LSD to dial out those one-wheel peels from the standard open diff, although that depends on how you want to drive it. If you are not planning on driving it about say 7/10th then the LSD may not be needed. Personally I wouldn't want an X-Drive version, the RWD makes the car so much livelier and exciting. I always find AWD makes for a numb drive and of course adds a chunk of weight to the car. I reckon that as the last of breed 6-pot hot hatches (we won't see another now), they are likely to increase in price as the years go by and numbers dwindle. They are a fantastic all-rounder too, I daily mine and get 40+ mpg on motorway runs, or a lot less when I find a nice B-road and you want to get a move on. One major point, adaptive damping is a must-have, it absolutely transforms the car making it pliable in comfort and much sharper in Sport/Sport+.

owning the Xdrive version myself as daily driver, loving it! in my opinion the best bang for buck fun/practicality and fuel consumption.

Yes Max, this BMW is the Dogs bo"""KS! Bonkers! Looks amazing! Goes like stink! What a piece of kit!. 3 door Shadow edition please.
Here where I live some lucky person has a Shadow edition 3 door in copper metallic. What a sound track.
As you say why BMW didn't bring X Drive to the UK is baffling. Another BMW destined for " Classic " status. Thanks to Tom for providing the review. And yes agree the additions are 👌. Except the 4D number plate...agree again!.🤣🤣😭💪

9:46 that’s because the steeringwheel is on the wrong side in your country. They had to redesign some parts to make it rwd. They where not bothered to do so, that’s it.

3l inline 6 with a ZF torque converter rwd in a small hatchback one of a kind won't be made again. Iam keeping my as long as i can.

If you want way over 400hp you should install at least the B58TU HPFP. And always go for the best fuel you can find, at least 98 octane but preferably higher but unfortunately not always available. The B58 engine loves (good)fuel 😂
I just bought my black M140i RWD, 06/2019 LCI 2 model. Great car but...the suspension/shock absorbers suck and yes it lacks an LSD. So tmr we're gonna install an OS Giken Superlock LSD and I've ordered a KW V2 coilover set with Damptronic delete kit. Unfortunately that KW set takes about 4 to 5weeks delivery. But after that including the LSD the car will handle much better with also much more comfort. KW's are so good, I had them on my previous car. Not annoying stiff but smooth and great traction.
Next year beginning of summer planning to go Stage 2 and XHP tune for the ZF gearbox. Already have the TU pump 💪

It’s the B58 and ZF8 that makes that car! Handling standard is a bit iffy and lack of LSD is not good. I’ve had the M240i and now a BMW Supra.

Nice review! Minor correction LCI2 was mid-2017 (July?) and not 2018 😊

Didn’t sound like the launch control was activated by the sound of the engine
