This week's Tesla news: why you may want to wait before buying a new Tesla vehicle, the Autopilot option that Tesla has brought back, and Elon Musk's 2021 interview on Joe Rogan including how the next-gen Roadster may be a flying car.

If you’re in the US you may want to wait as long as possible to buy a Tesla because the newly proposed reform of the federal EV incentive program called the GREEN Act includes a $7,000 tax credit for Tesla. Tesla was the first to sell 200,000 EVs so they ran out of the tax credit in 2019. If passed, this new bill would basically bring back the tax credit for companies like Tesla and GM who have already passed the 200,000 threshold so they can regain access to a new $7,000 tax credit for 400,000 additional electric vehicles until a new phase-out period starts again. While this hasn’t made it through the entire legislative process yet, it should have a decent chance of being implemented since the Democrats now hold the House, Senate, and White House. This new reform bill could obviously be a big win for consumers given the fact that Teslas are priced very competitively right now. With this new tax credit you could basically get a brand new Model 3 for around $30,000. Imagine getting a brand new tri-motor Cybertruck with over 500 miles of range for just over $60,000.

Tesla is bringing back Enhanced Autopilot option in China and Europe for 3,800 euros which is around $4,500 US, and the package includes Navigate on Autopilot, Auto Lane Change, Autopark, and Summon. Tesla probably wasn’t getting many FSD purchases from Europe customers so maybe offering Enhanced Autopilot to them makes sense, but we don’t know how long that offer will be available. I personally have always been a big fan of Enhanced Autopilot because you still get most of the useful features of Full Self Driving but you’re saving a lot of money.

Elon Musk was on Joe Rogan's podcast and mentioned the Model S Plaid+ went 0-60 in 1.94 seconds. That means the next-gen Roadster which is at least $60,000 more than Plaid+ should be even quicker than that. Elon said he wants to make the Roadster hover in the air by putting thrusters underneath it without being dangerous, maybe up to 6 feet off the ground. Tesla was already planning to offer a SpaceX package for the Roadster which consists of small rocket thrusters to improve acceleration, but Elon mentioned on Twitter that the new Roadster was “part rocket” and was asked if the new Roadster could fly and Elon answered “A little”. Joe asked about the possibility of moving while hovering and Elon said yes but would be restricted to the amount of time in the air. Elon talked more about the future Tesla van which due to the design, it might actually make sense to equip it with solar panels due to the larger flat surface area. He also mentioned the possibility of a having a retractable awning so that when the van is stationary it could open up and provide shade while charing the van maybe up to 30 miles of range per day.

Breaking News: Tesla to start accepting Imperial Credits as form of payment

Tesla is the only auto company that captures my interest today.

Electric vehicle manufacturers need to find a way to offer loans in the way that solar loans are offered. Re-amortize my loan 18 months after purchase so i can put the tax credit into the vehicle and lower my payment without refinancing.

Honestly, because of this video I waited. I had a decent down-payment saved up and ready to go... But I waited, excited about the tax cut and the potential to save more money (or even upgrade from an SR+ to a LR Model 3).

Now, 7 months later, the SR+ went up by almost $5k and there's no reason for Tesla to ever lower the price to the previous amount ever again due to the surging global popularity of their vehicles (especially both the 3 and the Y) despite the global supply shortage due to COVID. Plus, it looks as if this tax incentive will not pass Congress thanks to the GOP, Manchin, and Sinema pledging to vote against anything relating to Climate Change / Green energy despite Biden's positive views on EV's. Even if it passes through some miracle, the incentive price will probably be cut down dramatically to the point where waiting was pointless.

Lesson learned here; don't take advice from YouTubers.

I should've put that downpayment and I wish I never clicked on this video...

Tesla does have dealerships here in LA. They closed the one in the Century City Mall but opened a new one in the Santa Monica Promenade.

Why wouldn't the tax credit apply retroactively to January? wouldn't it be for the year?

Even if the tax credit becomes available again…
Would it be safe to assume the base price of all the models would likely go up as well…?

Have any guess when the new tax credit might actually come into play if passed? I don't mind waiting a few months. I really don't want to wait another year if I don't have to.

I was waiting for the green act to pass. I don’t think it will happen anytime soon. With all the stimulus and other priorities I doubt it will be coming. Same for solid state batteries (3-5years). So I am waiting for end of quarter and place an order.

Twice now I have gotten $7, 500 off the lease price of an electric car. Many manufactures, Nissan and Honda that I know of, will reduce the price of their electric car if you lease it. The salesman told me that the manufacture will take your tax credit. Hence, I leased a Clarity Plug In Hybrid two years ago and the dealer took $7, 500 off after we had settled on a price. Not only did it lower the lease monthly payment but also positively reduces the price if I decide to buy it at the end of the lease. Like many I break even on my taxes each year and don't owe the gov't anything. Having a tax break does me no good but having $7, 500 off the top is great!

I’d like to see a 2 seatRoadster the size of a Miata MX5.... top speed 130... 600 mile capacity. I don’t need hovering or jet pack.

Im holding out for the cybertruck personally. I adore my chevy avalanche and this truck reminds me of a futuristic avalanche, with a similar bed. Good things come to those who wait. I might wait a year or two after its released to see how it evolves and nab the model I like most. Lol. Who doesn't want a bulletproof truck?? Gonna be epic.

Did i not understand something or did he say that 99$/month internet is affordable?

One thing i like about tesla is there’s no dealerships that fluctuate in pricing, no high pressure tactics to get you to buy unnecessary service contracts (“extended warranties”), (although it may be a good idea to get tesla’s as for obvious reasons they can be incredibly expensive to repair if you need one done) and you can order it on your couch!

Since the tax credit is retroactive up to may 24, 2021, is it a good time to buy?

It has already been ruled by IRS that when you use BTC to buy a product you are taxed as if you sold it at that price.
