If memory serves, what is now Kaliningrad was offered to Lithuania, by the USSR, straight after the World War II was over, but was so fought over that it was full of mines, bombs and the like and turned down by Lithuania.

You neglect to mention that ethnic cleansing of German occupants happened in all countries of Eastern Europe after WW2 - not only Kaliningrad. As parts of prewar Germany were allocated to other countries (like Poland), or areas that had large German ethnic populations who had sided with Nazi Germany were 'cleansed' of the Germanic population. Antagonism towards Germans ran pretty high after WW2.

0:50 Fun fact: That same order, along with the knights of Malta still exists to this very day. But they obviously don't have any influence on politics.

1:17 it also lost influence because what we know as the kingdom of Prussia was really Brandenburg who’s capital was Berlin and not Königsberg

Kaliningrad has been illegally annexed by Czechia a couple years ago and renamed to Královec. Once the beer pipeline has been built, all hopes for independance will be lost.

It could be more than 10 years back when Poland permitted people from Kaliningrad a limited entry into Poland for short time and limited distance. Kaliningrad people took in very large numbers advantage of this offer for shopping trips. The border area of Poland received an economic boost. Poland should have never cancelled this again. Kaliningrad people would have understand the Western way of life in freedom and prosperity. The movement of independence from Russia would have grown fast and strong. The chances that there independent from Russia would have been received a big boost and who knows could be accomplished by now?

That poll thing was an online poll with anonymous voting. A person from Australia could vote, and that vote would still be counted.

Second, the original plan was to hand it over to the Lithuanian SSR but that offer was refused, so that was the next obvious move. The reason want "unclear".

2:03 The Lithuanian SSR refused Kaliningrad, although it could have received it, but the Belarusian SSR also wanted it, but the USSR Lithuania refused to give the isthmus in order to have a corridor

Hey, could you make a video about Upper Silesia and the Silesian Autonomus Movement? Silesian regionalist movements started to get traction lately.

I love the thought and wish the people there the very best!
My grandma and her kin had to flee from there in 1945 and I am sure she too would be delighted,
if she knew that the region might get some peace and freedom in whatever form.

I wish all the best to the Königsberg independence movement; it would make the world much safer, and the people there richer. Some nations like Arabs have many countries and it's nothing wrong.
