For the latest Toyota Tundra pricing and information:

The Toyota Tundra is all-new for 2022. Based on our first drive of the 2022 Tunda here are our thoughts.

The old V8 is gone, replaced by two engine options. The first is a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 389 hp/479 lb-ft torque. That’s the base model power plant that has more power than the outgoing V8 and will be more efficient.

Do we miss the V8? Short answer, no. The V6 produces convincing power. It accelerates well and gets the full-size Tundra moving quickly.

There’s also a hybrid engine that Toyota’s calling the i-Force Max. (437 hp/583 lb-ft) That’s the same 3.5-liter 6 but it’s paired with a 36 kW motor and 1.87kw battery located in the bell housing between the engine and the transmission.

First thought about this engine, wow. It’s got guts. We love how the hybrid works in tandem with the turbo. It seamlessly shifts between hybrid power and gas. It doesn’t feel like it’s tripping upon itself at all. Acceleration feels quick and available at throttle tip-in.

Both of those powertrains mate to a new 10-speed automatic transmission. We're not going to lie, this transmission had a bit of gear confusion when downshifting and it’s not super quick.

The chassis the Tundra rides on is an all-new fully boxed high-strength steel ladder frame. But engineers reduced weight by using aluminum parts in the body. Toyota’s implemented a composite bed to reduce even more weight.

The front suspension gets a new double-wishbone suspension, which also helps with stability and handling. There’s less body roll for sure.

Go all out with the TRD Pro Tundra and you’ll get 2.5-inch diameter internal bypass shocks, a locking rear differential, and a front stabilizer bar.

Overall, the ride is a night and day improvement over the last Tundra. There’s so much more stability and control, it’s far more comfortable.

Thanks in part to the Tundra’s new power, it increased its max towing capacity (Max Towing: 12,000 pounds/Payload: 1940 pounds)

Tundras come in many shapes and sizes from the Base SR both 2- and 4-wheel drive to the SR5, the Limited, Platinum, 1794, and TRD Pro models. There are two 4-door cab options and three bed lengths available on the Tundra (5.5-foot/6.5-foot/8.1-foot).

If you’re in the market for a full-size truck, you really do have some tough choices to make between the Ram 1500, Ford’s F150, and the Chevy Silverado.

"Am I missing the V-8? Short answer, no."

The problem with that is nobody is concerned about the "short" answer. What we're all concerned about is the "long answer." Like, 200, 000+ miles long.

I'll respectfully but firmly disagree and say the grill looks amazing

Toyota is like an aircraft carrier. It is slow, but with a lot of momentum. I am not a truck guy, but this Tundra is changing my opinion on it.

I was loving the new F150, but I'm glad to see the Tundra win me over with the changes, because u know quality and reliable is not a Ford thing.

As a truck guy, to me the front end is the best part so far…

Literally every other reviewer said transmission is smooth as hell and always ready to down shift.

I just noticed at the end of the video it appears there’s a power port on the dash. That’s a great idea for people who want to add accessories like a dash cam or radar detector.

I’m interested in seeing long term reliability. I have high expectations now that there’s all these changes and no V8 option, so I look forward to more Tundra content from KBB. Thanks for the first impressions Lyn!

No MPG info for the hybrid yet? Ridiculous

I miss Micah doing all the reviews and the updates sprinkled in with the rest of the KBB team.

9:45 "...tundra is not a value proposition". Is that dealer speak for "we will jab you for $20k above MSRP"?

Super expensive trucks are awesome for stealth wealthing. Most people won't guess your Toyota is more expensive than their Mercedes or BMW.

iForce Max sounds like some product developed by some fruit company in Cupertino lol

Joke aside, new Tundra is extremely impressive. So much so I think it's the most impressive new Toyota ever come out in recent years IMHO. All the improvements and refinements being introduced is absolutely immense, almost un-Toyota haha. Kudos Toyota 👏🏼

for those who's crying about the v8, trust Toyota and what they are doing. Take a look at their first gen Prius still going up to 500k plus so im pretty sure they have done extensive research and testing on the new tundra.

The tundra seems to look best when it's in TRD trim white orange those colors the grill is a little too big but I could live with it because everybody else got big ass grills on they pickups too... The twin turbo V6 should last I ain't heard no complaints from the Lexus version...
