I've been traveling solo for a minute! People tried to scare me since I'm a woman, but I moved to South Africa years ago solo, went on hiking expeditions, and even just got back from Kenya last week. Every single tip you listed is GOLD💫. I would just add one more thing - WRITE ABOUT IT! Oftentimes we get so caught up in taking pictures, that we forget to be present. Find a nice spot to soak in the views and magic, and write every emotion & word that comes to mind. I have a WORD journal that has followed me across many continents. A good tip if you want to travel abroad solo but are scared are traveling groups. I'm in a Facebook group called traveling Divas where (mainly women) give advice on traveling to different places in and outside of the country. This can help you be open to new ppl and places but still be safe

I went to Kenya alone for my 29th Birthday in December and I had a blast, 4 months later this year in April I went to Cape Town ALONE again and I'm currently planning a solo trip for my 30th Birthday. I am not sure where I wanna go but I'm doing it THE SOLO ROUTE AGAIN!!! Its literally the single most liberating thing iv done and now that I'm hooked, I m afraid I wont enjoy travelling with anyone ever again LOL...Great video Maya

Maps.me is great for navigation without wifi..just download the map of your destination pre arrival. Also, get some travel or renters insurance if you're traveling with any electronics or things of value, it gives you peace of mind knowing If you become a victim you can file a claim. ( Just don't lose your passport! ) * also, bring at least 2 small travel locks with you ( one for your locker one for your backpack )

Google translate is also clutch when you're solo and in a foreign place..helped me with taxi drivers, directions, etc. countless times.

I just went to NYC solo and sat at a bar in Brooklyn alone (I NEVER would have imagined doing this in my early 20s) I made a ton of friends that night and even connections for local work!

You meet the most beautiful people and have the most amazing experiences when you travel solo! I recently did a 3 month trip to Nepal and India alone (because no one I knew wanted to do this trip with me and I’d been dreaming about it for years) and I was so scared leading up to it. Everyone told me it was unsafe and I’ll get lonely. But honestly, I was never alone and the whole experience pushed me completely out of my comfort zone! If I wasn’t hanging out with the locals, I met like minded fellow travelers in groups or doing their own thing. People are so much more friendly and open than you think. As long as you have your wits about you you’ll be safe and you’ll make a bunch of friends from all over the world along the way. This trip totally changed my life. Go travel solo and find yourself. You’ll build character and realise what a badass you really are.

I went to Tanzania 🇹🇿 this past August and I fell in love with a huge part of myself that I’ve never seen. Traveling solo really is a beautiful accomplishment that I hope a lot of people get to experience. Now in December I’ve decided to take a huge…..chance on myself to stay in Africa in 2023. I basically approached my first solo trip to Barbados this year with the same outlook. And I loved every minute of it, already thinking about my next solo adventure. I let myself be open to meeting new people and not have my natural introversion direct my choices. I'm still working my way up to going somewhere that I don't speak the language. Resources and research go a long way travelling solo as a woman. I made sure I felt safe throughout my trip and was completely shameless in making it known if I was uncomfortable. Thanks for the trips Maya, will definitely add Colombia to my travel list (Australia might be my next solo adventure).
