If you hold the rope like this and pull towards your forehead, you'll target the lateral and rear delts. If you hold the rope like this and pull towards your shoulders, you'll target the rear delts and traps. If you pull towards your waist, you'll target the latissimus dorsi.

you still target the traps in the first one. the only difference is shoulder rotation. humeral angle is in the same range for trap recruitment

Wrist positioning doesn’t change back activation the force is still down humerus. The comfort of the exerciser is affected in you may have greater wrist pain, but otherwise no changes. The wrist muscles aren’t active no movement around them. Tension still remains on back musculature.

Note the lats on swimmers. Pull down from above the head like a pull up for lats.
