A CNC Router You CAN Run Vertically? We Put it to the Test on a 3D Carve!

preview_player
Показать описание
This CNC router video explains if and when you can run your CNC router vertically rather than horizontally. In this video, we cover the Longmill MK2 CNC router and how to set it up vertically and mount it on a tilt table from Rockler.

CNC routers with screw drives can be run vertically, but it is not recommended with belt-drive CNC machines. Running your CNC router vertically, and mounting on a tilt frame also is a spacing method to keep the garage clear.

In this video, you will also learn how to recover your x, Y & Z positions after the zero was lost. Especially when carving 3d CNC router projects. The 3D carve in this video can be found in the Vectric Vcarve and Aspire design software. This is the software that is taught on this channel.

Just wanted to say THANK YOU. I always feel inspired and uplifted after watching your content. I would also like to make a public comment to anyone interested in IDC Woodcraft bits. I had a very specific question and I got a reply to my question with in 24 hours of my original question. I am retired and I run out of time in a day so quick. But not the crew at IDC they have special clocks that move differently than my clock.. I know they are a busy bunch but still take the time to read and reply to questions. Thank you ALL have a fantastic day.

Be sure to make your cup holder for your beer on a swivel if you tilt the table😋 I just used the very same method yesterday on changing the x0 y0. Very good video!!

I bought a longmill 30x30 a year or two ago. I knew it was possible to install it vertically!
I just finished installing it vertically and it saving me so much space. I dont like using the dust thing, so I made a shoot underneath that collects all the saw dust. Good to use for when I spill my coffee!

This idea is a great resource for those of us who have limited space available for what we are passionate about. Sure appreciate your insight and detailed measurements.

One thing I have done to mark the push button switches on the control 3 strips of masking tape around the switches. Stop gets a red strip. Pause gets a yellow strip. Resume gets a green strip. That way you don't have to think or try to read the labels. You KNOW by the color which button you may want to push. Nice video. Too late for me, my table is made and my garage is all re-arranged to make more space. Could always do that later I suppose. You have proven that counter weights are not needed to take the load off the motors. Cool deal.

Just used The Hog for the first time a few days ago. I was just carving into pine, but that thing can seriously move some material. The different sound did concern me for a minute, but then I realized it's just a result of how this bit is designed and used.

Just wanted to say thankyou. I ordered your beginner bit package off of your website. Just received them yesterday. Got my bobs quantum max a week ago and have had it together a few days. I’ve only ran it to home so far. Extremely new to this and not confidante enough yet to put a bit in it and let it go. I appreciate the videos you put out and also love your salesmanship. The m&ms were a crack up. Hopefully while I’m down from a couple surgeries I will have more time to go through more of your videos. I have access to all the mesquite wood that I want and have been doing river tables for a year now. The cnc will greatly expand my products and profit. Thanks again.

And here I was making a sarcastic joke that my next Big machine would be mounted to the wall like a Murphy bed. I hadn't thought about actually using it like that (vertical running that is), but even imagining such a thing makes so much sense. Dust boot to dust chute conversion, incoming! 👍

Thanks Garrett you have given me a brilliant idea for when I update my machine. I will put it on a 15 degree plain. Thank you

Awesome Garrett, you are the real deal. You and the Longmill too when it comes to CNCs. Although I can only be a spectator at my age and abilities, watching over your videos still fills the sails of memories.

That's great Garrett . I wanted to get the 30 x 30 Longmill, but i was really struggling for space to accomodate it . Problem solved and I'm over the moon .

Happy to see you again. I was starting to worry. Soon I will be getting my longmill mk2 48x30. I already have your bits and app. Works well on my 3018 but I can't wait for the upgrade. From hobby part time business to a full time time business within two to three years I hope. Thanks again for everything. By the way on the IDC APP it would be nice to have metric system also. If you don't mind. :)

Excellent video! Packed with good information. The Rockler tilt table is a game changer for me. I have one and use it to load 4x8 plywood from my truck directly onto my CNC. Your idea to use it for your CNC base is brilliant! Now I have to make a trip to Rockler to get another tilt table. That makes the Longmill a portable CNC. Roll it into a trailer and take it to a job site.

Great video Garrett. I ran my Longmill vertically for a long time before burning a Y axis stepper driver. It may not have been related, but I ended up mounting it at 45 degrees. A great space saver for my tiny shop!

Tilt the table while carving. Good way to keep the sawdust off the table.

Garrett, that's a awesome tip on recovering from a power failure. This can be a life saver for those times when we are not using work offset G-codes. As I recall, you have a great video explaining those too. Anyway, thanks for the tip and take care.

I absolutely love the app - it's great to have all the info at my fingertips without having to run back to my PC. Another great video, Garrett!

And thanks for the Austor link. I've been looking for a set that someone might recommend. Your recommendation is the best around!
