In this video, I’m excited to share live my very first carve with the new Altmill CNC router, as I make a wood sign from Oak. The Altmill promises precision and speed that easily matches other CNC machines in its class for CNC woodworking.

I run through the whole setup as I dive into its capabilities, demonstrating how it handles its first cuts. The Altmill is a woodworking CNC, good for home workshops and small businesses.

This is a taste of the potential of the Altmill CNC router. If you're considering a CNC router that combines affordability with high performance, don't miss seeing the Altmill in action!

For the serious hobby size, 4' on the X and 2' deep on the Y is really the sweet spot. In my experience anyway, keeping the machine footprint wider than deep eats up less floor space where that is concerned.
Add: Finally picked up a license for Vectric this week, too. Really puts a spotlight on how slow Fusion is with the CAM side, it's infuriating waiting 40 minutes to calculate and then have it crash or stall when Vectric does a better job in 30ish seconds, and it's a rock solid program. It's worth the money on productivity alone, not to mention it's just dead easy to work it. Props to Garrett for the repeated endorsements on Vcarve. 👍

Nice run and project. Altmill looks good! Right now I don’t have room for a 48x48 but 24/30x 48 I would

I think a bowl bit would leave a nice edge detail.

I would love to see a 48" x 96" machine. I know there are some challenges with shipping altmill parts for a larger footprint.

If I could choose, I would like the Altmill 30" in the Y-axis.

I already ordered the Altmill, but 4’ wide x 2’ deep would be a great second machine that still could do full sheets in steps. If this thing is a great as everyone who has put hands on one says, I will be begging for a 5x10 that can do both of the odd sizes of baltic birch sheets.

Great video Garrett! Seems like you don't use a fence, how do you make sure the board is parallel to the x and y axis? Also, do you have any videos on making a fence?

What's the max shank size that spindle can use?

48x30 would be nice for small garage cause it will still cut a full sheet

Onefinity has linear ball bearings, not bushings 😊

The altmill can go much faster just need to speed up spindle to match speed of the feed

Do you design bits to fit 1/8th" spindles?

I have two NC routers, one where the router head moves on xyz and one where the table moves xy and the z moves vertically.

My question, when using Vectric software, and using conventional or climb selection, do I have to reverse these options based on my Table mover ? Material moves on one and on the other the material is in a fixed position.

Help me Obi Won ;>)

Is your profile bit a beast or hog-or just a down cut?
