We can be so caught up and blinded by distractions, and the fast-paced life with work, people forget the true bonding of friendship or any relationship slips away, with that being said, this is a great scene, and a metaphor

"Because he ASKED you to!" Such a brilliant delivery of that line. Sarek may be a Vulcan but his anguish over Spock's death in this scene is palpable. I'm so glad Mark Lenard came back to reprise this role for the movies and TNG.

With this scene alone, I’ve never understood people who claim that The Search for Spock was a bad outing for Star Trek.

In my opinion, Shatner gave his best performance as Kirk in this movie. That soft, pained 'No' was perfectly judged. This mind meld just tore up that barely healed wound of Spocks death and its all shown on Kirks face.

Can you imagine Sarek in this moment? Not only in the Vulcan manner having to control the grief for his son, but then having to feel his best friend's all to human grief as well?

Mark Leonard as Sarek is one of the all time great science fiction roles to ever come into existence. Nobody could have done it like he did.

1:51 - 2:41 Say what you will about William Shatner's oft derided theatrics, but he had more acting talent in his left eyebrow than many actors have in their lifetime.

2:38 That heart wrenching "No..." when he realizes again that his friend is gone. Still makes me cry to this day.

For a Vulcan so devoid of human emotion, Sarek sounds like any angry dad.

Here the mind melt forces Kirk to relive his loss of Spock. His glassy eyes reflect the tearing of his heart when Spock was dying. The Vulcan mind melt reveals the truth to both parties here, but for Kirk a 2nd time.

Kirk's face at 2:45 is heartbreaking. It's a look of complete sorrow. And that music tying to WoK...what a great scene.

The emotion in Sarek's voice when he realises that Kirk does not have that which he seeks... Wonderful acting from Mark Lenard

No other crew will ever replace the actors from the original Star Trek series. 🖖

"He asked you to bring him to _us_ ." Idk why but this line in particular gets to me. I think it's very touching that despite Spock's difficulties fitting in when he was young, Vulcans become "us" here - a united community that want him home. It's not just Sarek who misses his son, it's all Vulcans who want a son of Vulcan in his proper resting place.

For me, one the greatest performances ever on screen. And that music when Kirk says, "...Spock..." Chills.

Shatner really does some good acting in this movie. He really does look like he just relived the pain of losing his best friend again.

Kirk is just like 'sure' when Sarek asks if he can mind meld with him and did you guys notice that Spock's own father, who originally opposed Spock joining the Federation, assumed he had fused with Kirk. Now I'm pretty sure Vulcans didn't just give their souls to just anyone, they probably gave it to someone they trusted. Apparently Spock must've talked about Kirk to his mother, who talked to Sarek. Spirk love ❤❤👬

"live long, and prosper"
"... no..."
I know that in canon vulcans feel emotions stronger and deeper than humans. But Jesus... To be psycicaly taken right to the moment of your closest friend and confidant dying in front of you.
Jesus that is some trauma.

Kirk cnuld‘ve cried when the mind-meld he had in his apartment with Sarek made him recall his last conversion face to face with Spock on the old, battle damaged Enterprise. Good that Kirk figured out who got Spock‘s katra by the mind-meld.
