Exactly as you said. Looking effortless does not mean making no effort to look one's best.

I am not french, I am spanish/german but listening to you I think that in my heart I am a french woman, too. 😅

I followed your guidelines on a recent trip to France and felt very comfortable and didn’t stick out like an American tourist, thank you!!

One thing I respect is frugal shopping. I believe that’s why mostly classic pieces work best for most people.
Good food is essential to good health! ❤️

I like your new minimalistic format Marie-Anne. I'm glad you encourage buying second hand. I have recently fulfilled an ambition to have a Hermes silk scarf. I bought two! One from eBay, ( fantastic bargain, unworn, vintage, ) and one from Oxfam Online ( A UK charity, so I feel I've done good, too! ). I'm thrilled with both!

It is refreshing to see women without duck lips and heavy makeup.

I have been more selective of a personal brand in clothing style, but the designer names as free advertisements are setting oneself up to be a target in addition to tackiness. I do wonder about my small collection of Coach signature casual wedges and three bags. I am not sure how obnoxious the C fabric design looks, but somehow I am attracted to wearing them with casual jean days.

I am training myself about what fits my style and is a good price. I am also training myself to look at longevity in something. I stuff my bags and toes of shoes, condition the leather, spray the leather, add sole protectors on shoes, mothball clothes, wash in cold, gentle cycles with low heat to air dry only, and keep everything nice, but also insect-free. I live in Texas surrounded by working farms and will relocate to a ranch in the near future so pest mitigation will always be part of my life. When I look at the quality, will the style be something I can wear 20 years from now? Since I am a bargain shopper, I will always add newer and older together and never really be in style for the season. I'm ok with that.

I have been guilty in the past of being messy. I grew up not valuing anything material, so I didn’t care about looking nice. I didn’t want to love impermanent things. I came to see that the things you have can be appreciated and enjoyed without clinging to them or hoarding. Your channel made me see that style reflects more than just the clothes. It’s the approach to life that is actually reflected in the style.

Tip #2 is such great advice. I've never thought about it that way, but it's ingenious. I can't believe how some people behave in public and being rude to servers is shameful. Yes, I never mistreat my clothes. I take good care of them and they stay beautiful for years. Very helpful video.

Merci Marie-Anne,
I throughly enjoyed your video. I must admit since watching you for a while now, you have certainly educated me how to dress with style and how to select quality pieces. I am in my 50’s that shows it is never to late to learn how to be stylish and you are an awesome teacher of fashion.
Merci!

I love your natural look, and do believe less is more. Quality, selection, and editing are everything. I shop second hand often, and have found really wonderful items in excellent condition for next to nothing. It's like a treasure hunt. Thank you Marie-Anne.

This is excellent advice and I too hate ripped jeans; they look so trashy. Also, I think you have warm colouring and that you would suit gold-coloured jewellery.

Would you be surprised (or not) to learn that one some websites for "mature" dressy women -- they are all wearing distressed jeans? Distressed jeans are depressed jeans - according to me!

For all of us who must wear daily eye glasses (and can't wear contacts and haven't had lasik eye surgery) -- how about a play list for the most flattering eyeglasses?

I loved this video. Maybe it’s an European way of thinking, I’m Portuguese and I do all these things. My parents instilled in me buying cheap quality ends up expensive. Buy the best you can, second hand top quality is better then first hand poor craftsmanship. Be mindful of the environment and your impact on it. Take care of your belongings and they’ll service you well.

When I started working at the age of 15 my mother bought me 4 skirts 4 blouses 2 belts and 2 pairs of shoes. One heeled and one flat... she told me it doesn't matter what you wear in the house as long as you have taken care when you leave..i have always tried to mix and match..also watching sale for a longed for piece on sale...good quality shoes were always a must as people always notice shoes.... clean well kept clothing and shoes are important. Thankyou for reinforcing these principles xx

Thank you for this short and sweet “quality over quantity” video. I went to the mall for the second time since the pandemic yesterday, and guess how many “wows” (for myself) I saw in the department store where I used to be guilty of buying clothes just because they are on sale? Zéro! (The only pieces I bought were for a relative whose birthday is coming.) I now focus on my existing high-quality pieces, some of which were originally my mother’s (she can no longer wear them), and thoughtfully buy clothes only when there is a gap in my wardrobe. Next on my wishlist are a Breton top, more comfortable but chic straight (not patent) leather nude pumps, a gorgeous pair of loafers with arch support, and a winter LBD. 💕😘

Lovely as always, Marie-Anne! Loving the Navy subtle-striped blouse. Lilysilk? In my opinion, as an American woman, it is expected to hold on to our youthful appearances proving once again our age defines what we deserve. I believe French women (European women) have never subscribed to the fact that self-worth is negotiable and giving emphasis how life is led and not how they look while doing so.

Interesting fact that when I was working in aerospace the American pilots were so quick to mention when my gray roots started to show, however, the French pilots encouraged me to grow it out!
