Inside Out 2 IS AMAZING! AND THAT'S A BIG PROBLEM! - A Pixar Inside Out 2 Review and Analysis!

Inside Out 2 is a certified Disney Pixar CLASSIC! There's no other way to put it! A masterpiece of animation and writing with its only cardinal sin being the fact that it's not as grand or unique as its predecessor. But that could just be my nostalgia bias talking. X) Joy, Anger, Sadness, Disgust and Fear are fantastic as always and the new emotions like Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment and Ennui are all decent in their own rights! Riley feels more like a character rather than just a setting and certain scenes like the anxiety attack and the back of Riley's mind are some of the best in the franchise. I love this movie to bits......but that's also a bit of a problem. With that Pete Docter Interview about Pixar wanting to milk their franchises for sequels.......will the massive box office success of its latest sequel be justification enough for the studio to go forward with this plan? Or will they actually take the correct message from this success and focus on just releasing movies that are freaking good? I know we're getting stuff like Toy Story 5 so that's inevitable, but please no Incredibles 3 or Cars 4 or Ratatouille 4 or Lightyear 2. X) Elio is coming up though so originality might not be entirely dead. Anyway, likes and comments are appreciated if you enjoyed my review and analysis. Lemme know if you agree with my thoughts and worries.

P.S - Looking back, maybe I was a little hard on the new emotions. X) But it made for some funny jokes so I don't entirely regret it. I still stand by the fact that Envy is adorable and I would by all the merch of her!

P.S.S - Like I said here, I did only see the second movie once so if I misinterpreted anything, I'm gonna watch it again when it comes out on Disney Plus so that should clear things up!

P.S.S.S - Anyone else think Sadness and Embarrassment are kinda cute together? ^^ I wasn't lying when I said they're kinda cut from the same cloth.

P.S.S.S.S - There's something super satisfying about Joy snapping. It's got the same energy as SpongeBob exploding at Mr Krabs. X) Aside from the Sarcasm and the Lance Slashblade and Pouchy stuff, that might be the funniest part of the movie. X)

P.S.S.S.S.S - "I'm not good enough." Yes you are. Never doubt that.

Personally I think that Envy is supposed to inspire us to be better versions of ourselves. Boredom is supposed to make sure we live a fulfilling life and embracement to help us learn from our mistakes.

The line where Joy says “People don’t feel joy the older they get.” That hit me like a truck and that anxiety scene with the orange swirl scared the crap outta me.

I actually really liked Envy, because of how she drives Riley to think about her reputation. Envy can drive us to think about how others think of us. As long as this isn’t taken to an extreme, this can help motivate us to make positive changes. Envy wants Riley to be confident and popular with her peers. So if Riley gets jealous of something, she has the choice to either dwell on the feeling, or do something to go achieve what she admires in others.

Envy literally wants the best for Riley.

My 14-year-old and I saw the movie. It really hit home. My daughter suffers from anxiety and panic attacks. This was such a relatable representation.

That movie gave me Anxiety, both literally and figuratively.

I'm not sure if the writers knew what they were writing, they hit the nail to many complex thoughts and concepts. However I don't know if it was intentional or accidental.

When we got to learn that envy was one of the new emotions, I figured she would probably be a Driving Force, To push Riley into adapting to her new surroundings.

The definition of Envy is Discontentment with one’s own Qualities and possessions, and a major part of the movie is that Riley is at risk of losing her sense of self because of anxiety trying to look out for her by dictating the right way to fit in, while envy is giving Anxiety things to look up to and what needs to be done to fit in regardless if it goes against Riley’s own morals and values.

I still don’t understand why Embarrassment only showed up after Riley is a teenager. It’s not like Embarrassment starts existing by that point, you still feel it as a kid.

Inside Out 2 is one of the best Pixar sequal since Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 when it came to connecting the audience, and giving us a good plot to the storyline. I wanted to spoilers until I got to see the movie to allow for a good impression. This is no different than watching Dreamworks Puss in Boots: The Last Wish where it connects with both children and adults when it came to explaining mature subject we all go through in our lifetime. We as humans grow and change everyday and those sophisticated emotions are a great addition as we age.

Instead of supressing young minds for the sake of earning a profit for the film, these films educate us in real life situations like having an anxiety attack, fitting in, addressing our moralities, going through the stages of grief, separation, transition, etc. and still educating us in an entertaining matter. I would definitely reccommend seeing the movie and staying for the post credit scene, you'll thank us later. 😉

The new emotions resemble the older ones, but more extreme and reckless in a way. Yes, Riley have used sarcasm then, but she never used it against her friends which is what Ennui did. Meanwhile Envy, she's the one influencing anxiety, like suggesting what to do regardless if it goes against Riley's moral compass.

Envy here makes sense to me, I know why she was here in this sequel: to keep anxiety on its toes. Which makes sense because, admit it, there are times when we look up to someone so much and envy their feats, that we fear "I might never be as good as them" and it will bring you a lot of anxiety.

Embarassment, aside from helping sadness, is the counterpart of the latter. It keeps Riley's social cues grounded, he was not a fully fleshed out character here though.

Ennui is much more than the sarcasm. She is disgust's counterpart, but not really the same.

But with so much anxiety, the other emotions just didn't have the time to fully exhibit their importance in Riley's mind. Which made sense for me.

I will be honest. I loved inside out too. For me. This sequel is better than the original or at least as good. Disney and pixar are back to making good sequels again. I just hope it continues.

14:00 i have anxiety...and so does my dad....he has had anxiety attacks before and i only had one once a whole bunch of boys were surrounding me asking for my snapchat (even though i dont have a snap chat) and all i could to was tuck against a wall and cry... so i think this is a perfect represention of what that feels like.
but on a more light hearted note....

I think Inside Out 2 is better than the first one. As someone who has Anxiety at the wheel with joy not far behind, I felt this one intensely. The moment of the anxiety attack is exactly how it feels. The only other movie I think nails that is Puss in Boots.

Let's not get all doom and gloom over possible sequelitis just yet, I'm sure once they see how well Elio performs (assuming it's a hit), I'm sure they'll adjust their plans accordingly

Actually Pete Doctor stated the future of Pixar says that are more original animated films coming our way from the studio outside of Elio.

It wasn’t necessarily just about “releasing control”. I took it as, a big part of anxiety is the need to be perfect and feeling like you have to do everything right to be “good enough” and lovable. The point in the end being that no one is perfect and that’s okay. We are all multifaceted human beings with flaws and positive qualities and to have a strong sense of self we have to accept that and love ourselves despite our flaws, and with our flaws, the way we love others. Anxiety, in that sense, is in a large part because of perfectionism, insecurity and a fear of the future and yes also a need to control everything.
