This was really good. There’s many videos on why people quit media but not many on the effects social media has on the brain. These past few months, my memory has been so bad. And my attention span so short. Even in regular conversation. And I thought to myself, I don’t really use my brain, the way it was designed to be use. Doom scrolling will be society’s downfall, and people are getting dumber… and dumber. I deleted my social media, can’t even say I miss it. I hope everyone gets to a place where they decide to do the same. It’s just not productive, and detrimental to your mental well being.

Ive noticed the trend is shorts. Shorts appear more.

Sometime the videos on you tune default to the shorts first.

Then the addicting reels.

I was in a serious relationship with a girl i wanted to marry.

Her cell phone addiction made me give up. I told her its your cell phone or me.

Her exact words were "im not giving up my phone".

I lost out to a handful of plastic that was making her anxious and depressed.

I went off social media for a week, then I went back and realised I didn t miss anything, and even more, I realised I really didn t give a damn about anything anyone posted.. So I just erased instagram, tiktok, and I will eventually erase facebook too. People you actually care about or People who really care about you are going to talk to you through texts and calls anyway. We don t need to see irrelevant information from all over the world 24/7, it s exhausting and not useful

This is so spot on. I deleted Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram on new years. Best decision.

I quit all social media a few weeks ago. I watch this video whenever I start craving it. Incredibly useful video, thank you. Today I deleted my Facebook account permanently. I was ashamed with has much anxiety I had hitting that delete button. Never realized how deep it had sunk it claws into me until that moment.

Getting rid of social media addiction is very hard, but we should know a fact, the more we get addicted, the less time we have for our families, our work, and our lives. You don't want to regret at very old age that you have wasted so much time on these useless things, so forget all those fvc king time wasters, they don't deserve your time, your energy.

I was late to get a smartphone. In 2010, I finished college and started going to different live performance shows. I noticed how girls would look at their phone and film the live show to post on their social media, instead of watching the show undisrupted and enjoying it fully. People also would look at their phones and you couldn’t start a conversation with them at the event.

I took a month break off Instagram and it was nice to be away from it. I use my account for my hobby in photography so I post nature photos and landscapes. I recently got inspired and want to post photos of what I took for inspiration and creativity purposes. I don’t care for a tom of likes and who follows me. I use my account as a mini photo diary and I get my dopamine rush when I’m taking photos and editing them. Also, I’ve been more intentional with reaching out to people as well. I feel like my hiatus definitely will change how I feel about social media because I still won’t login on there frequently. When I logged back in last night NOTHING changed lol. Everything is still the same.

Your solutions work on a personal level. Smartphone and social media addiction has become a societal issue, and unless we elect lawmakers that take digital addiction seriously, and regulate social media companies on how they distribute negative and narcisstic content; this issue will only get worse.
There are phone companies like Lightphone which is pretty much a smartphone without distractions but they dont get enough media coverage because corporate lobbying and whatnot.
But the good news is, dumbphones have become a trend again, so lets see how long that lasts.

I recognized my screen addiction long ago. So I stopped posting to IG or FB. Never downloaded Snapchat or TikTok. And learned to earn a living online. So at least while I am screen addicted I am earning money!

This is ALL true! I'm 54 and so happy I'm not on any of this crap. People need to get out and exercise and stop looking down! It's unreal how quickly this thing has taken over. Basically started in 2007. Can't imagine 50 years from now and thank goodness I won't be around.
