Love this: “With my posts I shape your world. With your posts you shape mine. In this hyperconnected world, our digital habits have a long term impact on ourselves, our society and our planet.”

Got off fb in January 2019, and never looked back! Social media is tearing society apart at the seams.

The reason why people are toxicating on social media because they're trying to find connection while their real life is not going as they wish. It's normal. we all need to connect. we all need someone or some people to be with. so as long as we see people are being addicted to social media, we should give them a care, love, conversation, and attention, wether it's in virtual or real life. because that's what people need. to connect, understood, and heard. we all do.

I’ve been off of Facebook for a year and a half now. Never going back and I’m upset at myself that I waisted 8 years of my life on that. No more though, NEVER AGAIN.

There have been a few TED talks about this subject and after having watched a few of these, I do see a pattern in what is covered and not always does something new emerge. The one line here that jumped out me from this talk that I felt was quite thought-provoking was the bit around understanding the motivation behind a post. As someone posting piano covers online during 2 months of quarantine (and I am guessing a lot longer), I battled with this idea of being narcissistic - and that posting these videos online would be an avenue to indulge narcissism. In reality, I do want to connect and to belong and that lies at the heart of this endeavor. I like that she suggests not to dismiss someone's post as narcissism. That post is probably a plea to be loved or to belong. I have to admit I never really thought about it that way.

I feel social media addiction comes from lacking healthy relationships with people in real life.

I think the problem with social media is the unholy interplay between 2 factors: first, it's designed to orient you toward your audience. There's this constant pressure to play to the audience, conform to their desires (perceived, algorithmically determined, or real). People feel compelled to force fit their content to what they think will capture attention with. That's fine on its own. The second factor is that the content is supposed to be 'you'. Social media feels like it's about individuality, self-expression, "sharing" your thoughts, feelings, and adventures with people who care about you. The imbalance of those two things ― creating a persona to perform for an audience on one hand, and sharing yourself with people on the other hand ― is pulling people apart.

I deleted all of my ANTI-social media (Facebook, Instagram, & Twitter) in January 2021, and have not been back since. I missed it for about ONE DAY!!

That "two lists" idea is simple but brilliant. I am going to do that right now!
It's amazing how easily we confuse things that make us appear sucessful to other people with things that make us intrinsically happy just because. The two are often poles apart and most of us spend too much time chasing the former and neglecting the latter!

Thank you for sharing your experience.
If we take a step back, social networks are the current context, but we can also apply it in a more global way, that's what it inspires me...
Let us stop wanting to behave as we would like others to perceive us, but let us have the courage to put forward our needs and act accordingly.

Yeah, the talk is amazing. A topic that must be brought to the main stream, so We can solve social media addiction. She is beautiful! The way she talk, move and her voice... damn. It's very very rare that some lady caught my attention like this. Beautiful lady and very smart!

I think that uninstalling the apps is a good start but it won't work unless you commit to change, after all it's quite easy install them again. I tried that by myself.
By the way I did a simmilar research and I just posted it to my channel, in case someone wants a different point of view!

Social media got nobody's thinking they're somebody. Read my lips, likes and views does not mean you are a celebrity, you still have to wake up and go to that Chick Fila job in the morning.😂😂
