0:08- John McTiernan is one of my favorite action directors of all time. Predator, Die Hard, and this movie are his best work especially the fact they were filmed back-to-back-to-back. One of things that I admire about his films is the way he uses the camera to tell a story and the framing of the geography of his films. I always loved this lower tilt shot moving along with Alec Baldwin (Jack Ryan) to get closer cover with Sean Connery (Raimus).

Jack Ryan is not supposed to be an action-oriented guy. And for this reason, Alec Baldwin is perfectly cast. He really comes off as an analyst put into an extraordinary situation. By contrast, Harrison Ford is known so much for his action roles that his portrayal of Jack Ryan doesn't have the same effect.
