Relistening today remembering Sean Connery. This is one of my top 10 fave movies and was already one of my favorite Cine-file episodes too. Thanks Steve and John for this great episode which is also a great tribute to the man, the actor and the character Sean gave us. I’ll be re-listening to The Last Crusade episode next!!

One of my favorite films! My grandfather, who passed away earlier this week, was in the Navy aboard the USS Scamp (a Skipjack-class nuclear sub) in the early 60s, and this film was one of his favorites too!

This is my go to film for Thanksgiving as it is always played in my area around that time. It's also a film I quote all the time.

"Next time Jack, write a God damn memo!"

This is definitely my favourite movie. All of the characters in this film, by the way the actors play them and their writing, feel so natural and real. They genuinely feel like real people, not actors. I can believe their are submarine captains just like Mancuso or Ramius, and CIA employees just like Greer or Ryan. Really well written characters, if you ask me.

Love this movie, one I can watch over and over again.
A little bit more trivia about the change in language. I didn't know he stole it from Judgement at Nuremberg but apparently 'armageddon' is the same word in both Russian & English. Might alos be why it was done earlier.

As for why Baldwin didn't do another, I heard it was because he wanted to do The Getaway with Basinger. Is that not true?

Do you think the movie could have worked if it was ambiguous to the audience, if the Russians were deflecting until the scene were the Americans board their sub?

My favorite Jack Ryan is actually John Krasiniski I love that show, with Harrison Ford a close second. My mom has read these books many times over the years and she always hears Harrison's voice as Jack when she revisits the books. In her mind that is Jack for her when she reads the novels. For me I never really liked Baldwin as Ryan maybe that's just me, this film for me is more about Ramius and his crew than anything else. It's less of a Jack Ryan story in my mind, but hey that's just my opinion.

For me alec baldwin is jack ryan when i read the books hes who i picture. Just plays it just right. Harrison ford does not do a good job. Basicly playing him like he plays every other role he is on
