This has been happening for far too long. When my now husband proposed nearly 20 years ago, I was shocked by the poor quality in the high street jewellery chains. I remember a sales associate pushing this expensive platinum solitaire on us and I asked ''don't you think that band is far too thin for the diamond?" She immediately jumped into a spiel about how it was supposed to look and feel so flimsy to 'highlight' the diamond. You ain't highlighting no diamond that drops out and gets lost lady... We purchased a diamond and had it set properly by an independent jeweller, 20 years later it's still on my finger. Also worked out cheaper for a better quality product.

Gold costs are very high right now outstripping Platinum so This is a great time to do a redo of white gold into Platinum as well! It’s way more durable-and prongs are unlikely to snap. If you want delicacy in a ring- a platinum filagree is a great way to go.

Bro u do really good work. I work with my hands everyday doing shoes and all the painting and i make rugs too, but ur working with small parts, creating them from nothing and the craftsmanship is absolutely outstanding. I inherited my mother’s 3 diamond ring. The stones are nearly perfect, and it’s my most cherished possession. I was driving one day not long after I got it, and in the bright sunlight I noticed one of the four prongs had broken off one of the stones. I took it straight to a jeweler who told me they just don’t use 4 prongs anymore because if one breaks you can lose your diamond. He encouraged me to reset it using ) prongs per stone. I didn’t want to change the look of the ring for sentimental reasons, but I took his advice and I’m so glad I did. I never worry about it anymore.

Looks like my engagement ring! The little gaps on mine look like church arches and there are tiny diamonds going down eachside. It's not a popular style as it looks more "vintage" but I always get compliments!

I watch a channel on TV that sells jewelry. I am always stunned when a ring with large / expensive / rare stones is set with a band that looks like it would break in a minute. If I’m going to have beautiful rings, I want a band that can hold the stones, and withstand regular wear. Thousands, upon thousands of dollars for a beautiful ring that has a 2-3mm band, not for me…
