Looking to use the Netgear Nigthhawk M1 MR1100 with your home router? In this video I show how to use the Netgear Nigthhawk MR1100 with a router. This method will allow you to connect your hotspot to a router. Meaning it can replace your current ISP such as Comcast Xfinity, AT&T, Charter, Spectrum, Time Warner, and Cox. This is how you truly become a cord cutter.

Nighthawk MR1100 Admin URL: 192.168.1.1

Follow the steps below to use the Netgear Nighthawk MR1100 With a Router:
1. Go to 192.168.1.1 and log in as the administrator.
2. Navigate to Settings - Setup - Mobile Router Setup
3. Once you are in Mobile Router Setup, make the following configuration changes
A. Turn on IP Passthrough
B. Turn off DHCP
C. Turn off Ethernet Standby
4. Once you have configured those settings, plug the Ethernet cable from your router into the Nighthawk MR1100 and then reboot the MR1100.

I had the problem others have had here after following the directions. I then reset the MR1100 and started over. This time, I changed the router address FIRST. (My router is a NETGEAR RAX40.) It took about 5 minutes to reboot, so you have to be patient. I then made the changes to the MR1100, hooked up the router and everything worked perfectly.

VERY much appreciate you taking the time to post this video and for those who noted the TP-Link Archer C7 v2 as being the linchpin in the whole process. I've had an M1 for nearly a year and spent A LOT of time trying to get the thing connected via Ethernet to a router but nothing worked. Read countless posts of the same issue and never had success. Until now! I decided to take a chance and buy a TP-Link on E-Bay (got it for $50!). Last night I tried and presto, it worked perfectly. I'm totally amazed and very thankful as now I can try to build out my home network. Thanks again!!!

That worked great the second time I did it... Got nothing through the router the first time so I had to connect the M1 device to my computer through the usb port to change the settings back. Then I changed the router address to 192.168.0.1 and did it again. That did the trick. I do get quite a bit faster speeds now too. Thank you for the concise and clear video on this.

These steps do work and I am glad it worked for the presenter, but the reality is that the Netgear Night M1 has problems with IP Passthrough. It isn't compatible with many devices, such as by Linksys/Cisco EA4500.

There are a lot of complaints on the Netgear boards about the feature not working reliably. Yes, my unit is on the latest revision.

When I follow the steps provided and connect to my Netgear AC1750 router's wifi I am getting "No Internet Connection". But I run the ethernet cable from the MR1100 directly to my PC I am getting internet without issues. Any thoughts on why the wifi through my router is not working?

Thanks this is really helpful. I have used these settings on my Nighthawk M2 M2100 with some TP Link Deco gear and it worked well for quite a while. However after a firmware update on the Deco router I couldn’t access the internet anymore (although I could when my laptop connects directly to the M2). The TP Link support team suggested I enable DHCP & disable IP PASSTHROUGH and it now works (not that I understand what has changed in their firmware).

I wasn't having any luck at all and then I put the battery in. That did it -- it works now, thanks!

Not sure how long ago you posted this or the firmware date but I followed along and failed every time with my older WD NetN900 home router. After countless resets I gave it a try with just changing the home routers IP address to 192.168.0.1, your final step or suggestion and plugged it into the WAN Port and the nighthawk. Presto. I changed nothing on the nighthawk other than the network name and password. JFYI this M1was just purchased this last week 2/2020 and it had the current firmware already installed. Hope this easy fix will help

For everyone who can't seem to get this to work as shown on the video. I had the same problem. What I found is that It is not your router causing the problem it is that the MR1100 does not have a valid IP from the cell provider.

What I did was press the reset on the back of the MR100 for 15 seconds and let it reboot. It will not remove your sim card data or registration but it will reset the MR1100 to factory defaults. You can then follow the instructions again and this time you will see a valid IP shown on the information page.

I couldn't connect to my tenda router following the instructions in this video. WiFi would connect but with no internet connection. But I figured out a way to connect with changing the settings in the router section of internet settings. I just changed the operating mode from router to wisp. Hope this helps the people struggling to make this work.

This video is spot on as I did this before when I had AT&T service with a provider from E-bay. But that got cancelled as AT&T starting cracking down on misuse of accounts. So I got a plan with AT&T (100mb/month). Well, this will no longer work for me. As soon as I switch off WiFi and reboot the M1, I lose all connectivity to AT&T service and get the read flashing light. If I pin reset, back comes the blue flashing light and service is restored. I've tried four times and the results are the same. The last time I left DHCP enabled (previously I disabled as shown in the video), but no go. Red-flashing light every time.

FIX** To anyone who was having troubles with this please read! In order to get this to work with my nighthawk m1 and R7000 router i had to first install express vpn software on the router and then it worked flawlessly. Also i changed the tether option from "tether+ charge via usb" to just charging via usb. Really improved my speed. Great video and I hope this helps someone @Gauging Gadgets

Someone recommended changing the IP address on the router first and then make the other changes. That's what worked for me!

Did what you said and worked great. If I wanted to revert back to initial settings on m1 how do I do that? Can’t get back into web admin page. Says not connected to router’s WiFi. Reset?

Excellent! - if you do this and you move the device to a different location do you need to revert the settings to be able to use the MR1100 as a standalone in different location?

Thanks so much for the video, came up when I searched online for this topic and this was spot on!

Absolutely great information. I didn't have quite enough speed to stream before, but changing these settings made all the difference. Great!
