That's washing OF water BY the word. EPHESIANS 5:26. That WATER, that pure water, is the water Jesus spoke about in John 7:37-39, and the same water spoken of in REVELATION 22:1.

Baptismal regeneration is Christian and biblical. Baptism is tied to our salvation in a number of verses [cf. e. g. Mark 16: 14-16; I Peter 3: 20b-22] and to regeneration / being 'born from above' in a host of others [cf. John 3: 3-6, Acts 2: 38-40, I Corinthians 12: 13; Titus 3: 4-7]. It has been practiced in the Catholic Church and the Orthodox communions [i. e. both Greek and Russian] for 2, 000 years, and in the vast majority of Protestantism [e. g. Lutheran; Reformed / Presbyterian; Anglican / Episcopalian] for 500 years now. It is always the relative newcomer on the block [Baptists are an offshoot of the Puritans who were themselves offshoots of Anglicanism / Episcopalianism; e. g. Roger Williams in 17th century England] who are looking for some theological distinctive to distinguish themselves from everyone else who come up with some novel doctrine and then turn and look at everyone else and say, 'Look at us, we are the ones preaching "TRUE" 'Christianity''.

After living "on the inside" of the Church of Christ for a temporary period, i can sum up their heresy by quoting from THEIR hymnbook . Their hymnbooks use many of the old standards (which were written by Baptists, Methodists, a.k.a. " Denominational world " ) . They sing songs written by people that they won't fellowship with ! ( those ol heretical denominationals ) . Anyway, the simplest way i could describe the beliefs of the Church of Christ sect is thru a Fanny Crosby hymn that they sing "To God Be The Glory " . The church of Christ leaders CHANGED THE WORDS ...on the second verse ! The second verse reads "... the vilest offender who truly believes, that moment from Jesus a pardon receives " . The church of Christ CHANGED it to say, "the vilest offender who truly obeys, that moment may enter the Heavenly way " .

John 3:36He who believes in the Son has eternal life; he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God rests upon him.

The irony of a baptist saying baptismal regeneration is a heresy

Mark 16:16 could just as well read, "He that believeth and is born of the Spirit shall be saved." Hearing of the word does not always immediately result in being born of the Spirit. There must be belief in the heart. The Lord may see the heart and choose not to quicken that person with his Spirit. Look at the word "believeth" .... that "eth" means an ongoing, continual belief. At the time one truly believes, they are born again/baptized with the Holy Spirit. JOHN 3:8 explains that we are not in control of our regeneration of the Spirit. Christ examines our heart and deems it worthy or unworthy of His Spirit. The Son quickeneth whom he will.~JOHN 5:21 He is the judge of the quick and dead.~ACTS 10:42 It can take years before a person's heart is right before the Lord. It took mine almost 30 years. 😮

I find it interesting that you claim 1 Pet 3:21 says nothing about salvation and that you summarize it as saying "God saves us by his grace." Why not just use the real words of scripture with your congregation, specifically "...baptism doth also now save us?" Oh.. wait, because that would be detrimental to your case. I don't believe in baptismal regeneration the way you present it anymore after years of study and struggling with scripture, and the hardest part of escaping that view was that every time I listened to a preacher speak against it, he would hide scripture from his congregation by paraphrasing what it ACTUALLY meant according to his denomination, or he would only present the most obscure extremity of the baptismal regeneration view to make it sound ridiculous without addressing the actual biblical issues, for example; all who call on the name of the lord will be saved. Calling on the name of the lord is not a work of the law. So, how does the New Testament say we are to call on the name of the Lord? By a sinners prayer? Look at how Saul was told to do it:

Acts 22:16
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Protestants are so silly. It’d be funny if they weren’t misleading so many.

no man should baptism me in water unless I am certain he is righteous. whats the bible say?
Romans 3:9-12
9What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;

10As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

11There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

12They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
