Knowing the Bible as a believer is critical. It should not be only known and read by leadership. Too many in leadership are corrupt.

Because we go to mass to receive the body, blood, soul, and divinity of our lord and savior Jesus Christ. We go to “mass” to take part in the feast and worship the triune God. they on the other hand go to Bible study. Our Bible study is not our mass. Anyone who says a devout Catholic doesn’t read the Bible then I’m sorry you don’t know Catholics one bit.

I was a practicing Catholic for the first 30 years of my life, I also wondered why we didn’t read the Bible and instead “had it read to us” there is a misconception that only a priest can understand the word and must give it to us. Fact is any believer can read the Word of God and the Holy Spirit will be his teacher.

Imagine 66 books by 40 authors and thinking that 3 readings per week for 52 Sundays a year is enough to know God? It’s but a trickle from the river of Living water.

It is easier to control the flock, if the flock has little knowledge of what is really in that book.

I think that’s where the Catholic Church fails.
A lot of other religions offer a structured Bible study and in general the Catholic Church doesn’t.
I wish they did…

My hope is that as Catholics begin reading the Bible more and more, they will one day denounce the anathemas proclaimed in the Council of Trent.

Christians should be reading and studying the Bible to understand what the scriptures say. This is also a good way to make sure the church you are attending is teaching the correct doctrine, if they are not teaching the correct message then leave that church and find one that teaches the correct message, the correct doctrine.

The Bible made me Catholic after 18 years of Protestantism. The Bible lead me away from the false teaching of Sola Scriptura.

Alright hold it right there! I dont what version of the Catholic church you are all claiming to be part of but where i find myself, what the priest explained is the actual reason why many do not read but we have never been told not to read the Bible privately. We are encouraged to do so in several ways, we have a catholic calender which has all the daily readings, so you can read, meditate on them everyday, we have them in devotionals that are monthly, quarterly and even yearly.
So all those who feel catholicism is against Bible reading, YOU'RE SO WRONG. IN FACT THIS VIDEO IS A RESPONSE TO THAT MISCONCEPTION
