Should You Update Your Motherboard’s BIOS?

My general rule of thumb: Don't do it unless needed.

Important note : the bios doesn't affect performance, bios is used for power management and some other low level services but doesn't directly affecte anything after the control is given to the bootloader. So don't Update everytime there is an update be cautious updating the bios because if you fck up your pretty much dead. If your pc runs then you don't require an update.

I have always told people, unless you are addressing a certain problem you are actually having, and your system is performing properly.. updating a bios, can remove functionality, and most people do not understand what settings will he affected.. you should warn people about making bios copies and how to unroll an update if needed

PC enthusiast here, built about 10 different rigs and only ever updated the BIOS two times as it was absolutely necessary. Would not recommend updating it otherwise. As the saying goes : « If it ain’t broken, it doesn’t need fixing ».

Certain BIOS versions drastically kill performance due to bugs. So your best bet is reading through a 300 page forum thread to see which versions work well for your mobo/CPU combo. 🙃

You should only really update if needed (like what you said) or if there’s a security patch, BIOS stability updates don’t matter if your system is already stable.

AM5 socket motherboards (especially Asus) need to be updated due to the danger of frying the CPU due to improper voltage setting from the box.

P.s. This only applies to processors with 3d cache chiplet(X3D)

I know updating bios is important in some cases, but my anxiety goes through the roof everytime i do it, so yeah, if it's not too critical imma keep using the old bios.

You can update graphics card firmware, SSD & other hardware. You can also use custom firmwares to get better performance or unlock some features.

If everything is already running and working fine: NO
If you're having an issue that is reported to be fixed by a specific BIOS update: YES

In my country from some stores you can order the motherboard with a bios update if you want and it's not expensive, it's somewhere around 14-16$

Always download update and do offline install cuz if your wifi go you will have issues of you chrckrd onnline download and install together. Make sure Power doesn't goes during reboot.
If you are laptop user please don't do. If you have a HP (hardware problems) you must absolutely should not do it.

Only update your bios when it’s worth it or something isn’t working.
Since sometimes your performance will decrease due to new security patches.

GPU driver and OS updates should have a higher priority.
