Yeah, its a Clove Hitch knot in the center of the spindle. It is the Egyptian cord method with longer cord and wraps above and below the knot.

Thanks for the tip because I will be making and using a bow drill this weekend so that I can "get out there practice, train and get it done' : ) Lot's of videos on bowdrill fires, I'm interested to see what happens when I try it for the first time. Take care man!

Interesting!  Never seen that technique before. I wonder if it might be a good way to use also with weaker natural cordage like spruce roots or something.  I may give that a try.

Hi Moscowprepper, nice tip, maybe less coils in the spindle will prevent the wear the bow string

Great tip and job bro. geez i dont bother with the bow drill, i know i should. Have done it once and got success when i was just playing around. Knowing how is utmost important tho. Anyhow i'll keep this in mind if i ever need to use the bow drill. take care buddy.

That's a lot of work, I think I'd just use my bic lighter. However, it is a good idea knowing how to do this.

That's cheating. Not a proper Bow drill attempt unless the drill flies out and tries to maim you. :)
