When they made these axes, did they also harden one edge more? I just refinished/rehung a small cruiser axe for a friend and noticed that one edge was significantly harder than the other. The file really skated on that one side.

Months after I bought my house, I found a bunch of axe heads about 4 inches under the dirt. There was a preexisting farmhouse in the adjacent parcel. But it may have been the previous homeowner. However, these axe heads are at least 80 years old. I sanded them down and gave them a quick sharpen. And only placed them in wooden handles

If you Get you one of the giant sharpies or a brush sharpie you’ll spend less time scribbling on the blade and it just gets a way better coverage in the gouges you want to level out
