Freeze the small tank in the freezer then fill it, you'll end up with a 3/4 filled green can.

I have been filling my green canisters for quite a few years now. I fill them full and my blow torch lasts for years with regular use. I love that I can find brand new empty canisters when ever I go to the campground for free. 😎

Put the green bottle in the freezer for a few hours…you’ll get way more propane in the bottle

I go around to the local rv parks and pick up used ones for free. Then I go home fill em back up and sell them for a little cheaper than they normally sell for. Make a damn killing off them.

FYI It’s a good idea to have good ventilation and be grounded to discharge static electricity ⚡️ while doing anything like this. PPE Always !

Been refilling mine for years. I freeze mine overnight and get them completely or mostly full. The only issue I run into is the check valve sometimes leaks after filling. When that happens, you can sometimes press and release the valve and it will stop leaking. Sometimes it still leaks.

Pro tip. Put the small green cans in the freezer for an hour and let the big tank sit in the sun and get warm. It'll fill like 3/4 full

No need to freeze. Just pull the relief valve on the one pounder to let out gas so more liquid can enter.

Or fill it all the way.. if you know how use the Schrader valve

! Now you got it! I also put my empty bottles in the freezer for 30 minutes. Take them out one at a time as you fill them. You’ll get a better filll

I've been doing this for years and the best way I've found to properly fill them is to get a very small pair of needle nose pliers and by turning the bottle being filled on it's side with the Schrader valve located on the outside top of the one pound bottles pointed up. The Schrader valve on the outside of the bottle is meant to be pulled to open it and when you do so it will let out gas to be replaced by liquid and when liquid starts coming out the Schrader valve you stop because it is 100% filled up with the allowed gas space required by law to ensure that the bottle doesn't explode from pressure buildup. When doing this it is important to make sure that the bottle being filled is laying on its side LEVEL with the Schrader valve up. Remember that the Schrader valve on the outside is meant to be pulled and not pushed unlike all the other things that Schrader valves are used for. All propane bottles have similar relief devices installed to allow gas to escape so liquid can replace it and determine when the bottle is fully filled without over filling. Bottle orientation is critical in all cases. All but the one pound bottle are meant to be filled up right. This fill pressure release is found on the bottom of the main valve and looks like a flat head set screw. Some even have a tiny thumb screw to allow use without tools.

I think you can get them to fill more if you freeze the green cans first. Helps more liquid get in which later turns to gas.

You just pull the relief valve until liquid comes out and your done in a few seconds with a properly full tank.

You can also get an adapter and use the big tank for anything you need the green tank for. I use a big tank on my little buddy heater.

Soooo if I fill it for 6 minutes will I end up with a full filled green can?

Nice. I take 20 lb tanks to lumberyard to refill - much cheaper than the normal exchange.

Put the 1 pound in a chiller/freezer for 5 min... then after about 1 minute you'll get a full of over-filled canister. After 3 or so fills, let the filler adaptor thaw... it will freeze up.

They also sell the refilling bits in the camping section at Walmart now
