I've had magnetics on my black stainless steel for 6 yrs and never had any scratches! Still looks brand new.
I love my black stainless steel. It's different and beautiful. Who wants the same old stainless steel like everyone else? Not Me.

This is why I purchased from Bosch. They are the only ones in the industry that integrate black stainless all the way through their appliances. All of the other black stainless steel is just a coating that will peel off. It is more expensive, but well worth the money.

Thanks for this, you've saved me from making a costly mistake, i didn't realize the 'black steel' was just a thin film...

Living with all Kitchenaid black stainless appliances for the last 3 years I completely disagree with this assessment in my experience. I LOVE them compared to regular stainless. You don't need to buy ANY special cleaner. Just use a dishrag with a little dish soap & dry with a towel on just the dirty area. No need to clean the whole surface to avoid smearing like with regular stainless & they don't even get smudged as easily in the first place. Cleaning them is a breeze. My previous stainless ranges always had some scratching at the cooking surface but so far I don't have any scratches on any of the black stainless appliances & I do have kids. No signs of any peeling but again I am cleaning with just soap & water. They still look brand new. I would absolutely do them again without hesitation. I would have a much harder time going back to regular stainless steel, they were so much harder to maintain! I do agree though that you can not match across brands (it's like gold hardware, each is unique) & to research your manufacture.

I have had black stainless kitchenaid appliances for 7 years now. They are still perfect.
And no, I do not use magnets on my appliances.
The multiple functions/fancy stuff on fridges commonly malfunction. I went with a basic fridge 🤷‍♀️

I have black shiny appliances and I love them. Not sure if they are stainless or not/ My fridge is Samsung and all the rest are whirlpool. I have no scratches at all on any of them and had them for about 8 years! I am looking for a black stainless sink but all can find is gunmetal. You dont realize it until you read further. I have been looking for days! Do you know of a true black stainless sink?

One small thing you left out is that it can also peel. A chunk came off my dishwasher door at the end of the handle where it meets the door. It was because the door flexed a little bit when I pulled back on the handle and now it has a big piece that peeled off. To fix it my only choice is to buy another entire door for $255.00. I will never buy black again

So what exactly is the slate, and how/why is it better? I thought slate was stainless as well, and so if it’s covered stainless, wouldn’t it cause the same issue? What about the matte white on the Cafe series? Any concerns there?

I love my black stainless Kitchenaid Fridge. I've had it more than a year and there are still no scratches. It really looks classy in my kitchen. That being said, I use regular stainless for all my other kitchen appliances. The trim on a kitchenaid fridge is regular stainless with red end trim anyway, so it mixes well with stainless pieces. I do agree that it may not be worth the extra cost to get black stainless in most appliances. I also think only Bosch and Kitchenaid actually look good in black stainless anyway. They are more of a brushed stainless instead of shiny. With current trends toward lighter kitchen colors, it may not even look that good in most kitchens. It looks great with industrial and rustic kitchen styles.

I was going to buy a black stainless, the only thing that stopped me was that magnets would not stick, I’m looking at a platinum silver one now, but can’t find out if magnets will stick, and can’t seem to find out. I’m happy I just saw this, another reason, good to know

Our LG kitchen Appliances are 4 years old and the stove started peeling around the door handle. Any ideas how to seal the finish so it doesn’t peel more? Just noticed a slight scratch on the frig hoping the finish doesn’t start to peel. I can deal with it under the handles just don’t want the stop to grow.

Its not educational its a sweeping statement... the quality of the finish will depend on a few things ... manufacturer... process used ....environment... to say they are all the same is just stupid

I'm not disagreeing or agreeing with the content of the video; regarding the slate color GE appliances. We had all brand new GE slate appliances in the house as of 2019. In later 2020, microwave and dishwasher both broke outside of warranty. After a few hundred dollars worth of service calls we had to replace. Main reason was the microwave was still running when opening the door!!!! And dishwasher had main circuit board replaced, user control circuit board replaced, door switch and main rubber seal around the door replaced... poor quality

In nearly 4 years of selling appliances, I've only heard 1 complaint on black stainless, and that was from the couples children drawing on the refrigerator with crayon, and their cleaner of choice wearing through the coating.

Scratches through the "black" film coating can be fixed with a Sharpie, but depending on how big the scratch is it may still be noticeable. Also doesn't work as well on glossy black stainless finishes because the Sharpie will dry to a matte finish, though still more desirable than seeing a bright stainless scratch shine through your black stainless appliance. Also, once scratched cleaning can cause peeling.
