Everything MonoTub - Shaking Your Grain Spawn Jars During Colonization of Mycelium on Rye Substrate

First off, sorry its been so long since I've posted a new video. The last two weeks have been a little busy, and I'm also learning how to use my new video editing software, so that's really slowed things down.

Today's topic might seem simple, but shaking your grain spawn jars is actually something that can really benefit the overall project quite a bit. If we shake at the right point, it will result in faster colonization, which also means that unwanted spores and bacteria wont have as easy of a time finding their way into our spawn and creating a problem.

This is another video in our series about monotub cultivation of mushrooms, one of the easiest and most accessible methods for growing mushrooms at home. If you haven't already, I really recommend you go back and check out the earlier videos in this series, we've covered some pretty good info already.

Wow, I can see how much work and time goes into drawing your diagrams alone. Visual learning is the best way for me to grasp concepts of every kind and I appreciate what you do. As a result I remain fascinated and interested in mycology science. Very cool.

Don't rush the videos, keep the quality!
These have been clear and straight forward.
Love the hand drawn illustrations as well!

I massaged my spawn bag every second day. It colonised so much faster. I also used much less lc.

I always shake right after inoculation, again at 25% and one more time at 100%, not only does shaking it up speed up colonization but it also helps to expose any contamination that is hiding in there.

good call on throwing out the whole jar. im allergic to penicillin which makes growing mushrooms kinda sketchy but nothing a little caution can't fix..you never know what you guys might be allergic to. penicillin would kill me, meanwhile others would say its safe to open and clean.

The moment I finish inoculation I start shaking that jar like hell! About a week or so later, my ENTIRE jar begins to get whiteish with colonization! The more vigorous and constant shake after inoculation the more uniform is the colonization.

Can you do a video/test on substrate/grain layering vs fully mixing. It seems the results of layering is faster even if its against the logic used for grain jars.
