Uncle Ben's Break & Shake Tek - The Best Mushroom Grow Bag HACK - How to Speed Up Growth

The "Break and Shake" technique is a method for maximizing mushroom cultivation for beginners. This modified version allows for better distribution of Mycelium in Uncle Ben's rice bags. We show you how to speed up the growth by breaking the colonized grain apart and exposing as much of the innoculated grain to the regular grain. This video guide will walk you through the easy steps to grow mushrooms using this innovative method, ensuring your venture into mycology is successful and rewarding.

The Break and Shake method accelerates mycelium colonization in substrate bags, such as the pre-sterilized, ready-to-use Uncle Ben's rice bags. Mycelium, the vegetative part of a fungus, is like the roots of mushrooms, and its healthy growth is crucial for successful mushroom cultivation.

Place the bag in a warm, dark place. The ideal temperature is around 75°F (24°C). Wait for the mycelium to start colonizing the rice, which usually takes 1-2 weeks.

The Break and Shake: Once the bag is 20-30% colonized, it's time for the break and shake. Gently break apart the mycelium clumps and shake the bag to distribute the mycelium evenly. This step encourages faster and more uniform colonization.

Fruiting: After the bag is fully colonized, introduce it to conditions conducive to mushroom growth, such as higher humidity and fresh air exchange. Within a few weeks, you should see mushrooms beginning to form.

Could you please do a video on fruiting and materials needed for that in the substrate? Thank you! 🙏

can someone help me? i did a break and shake on UB in two different bags. one did great only broke it up and shook once and it all came back so fast and perfect.. the other one came back from the 1st break and shake but there was this 1 spot that wouldnt fully colonize on the bottom part of the window.... so we broke it up once more to see if it was bad, theres is no other signs of contaim. but the myc didnt fully or half way come back in the view area. but no signs of nasty stuff

Remember folks: Use coco coir, not peat moss. Peat bogs take thousands of years to form and have been harvested industrially for the last 100. Doesn't take a mathematician to see coconut waste is better

what happens if you don't do this step but leave it to incubate/colonize for longer

Once the mycelium fully fills the bag, can you let it fruit from the bag. Or do you have to transfer to substrate. I dont know how to get sterile substrate

Why go through the steps of bringing the grain down to the bottom if you’re just going to break it all up and shake it anyway?

Do NOT shake and bake to early it can contaminate wait untill it has harden up..
