Correction - The PSVR 1's $400 price, did not include the PS Move controllers or the Camera. And whilst you could use the PS4 controller in most games (rather than the PS Move controllers), you did require the camera, which retailed for $59.99. Therefore the actual price between the PSVR 1 and PSVR2 is $90, rather than $150. If you were to buy 2 individual Move controllers, then the PSVR 1 would've actually been more expensive ($400 + $59.99 + $49.99 + $49.99) - however, often bundles offered better deals. I completely missed that the launch price of the PSVR 1 only included the headset and not the Move or the Camera, which was required for the PSVR to work. My apologies for that :(

I think we should be thankful that Sony is continuing with VR, giving us the chance to get into high-end VR gaming for a relatively cheap price!

I don’t think it’s fair to criticize the price because you can get a Quest cheaper. It’s more expensive because it’s much more powerful and has more technology built into it. It’s like comparing a PS5 to a Switch. The price is more than worth it if you want better quality especially considering you have to shell out for premium headbands and extended batteries to make the Quest useable.

The MetaQuest 2 is now $400 for the 128GB model and $500 for the 256GB model. The PSVR2 has major upgrades including eye tracking that allows for foveated rendering. So I think it is worth it.

Totally disagree with all your points. This is a tech monster compared to most VR headsets, especially the Quest. In terms of cost, pretty sure inflation and the fact you get 2x controllers have something to do with it, plus the obvious tech increase. PSVR one needed additional accessories at launch.

The problem I have with back compatibility is it hinders future development and I want to be wowed. Instead of developing new, beautiful worlds pushing boundaries of tech, physics and storytelling, we are worrying about the past . We never moaned about back compatibility until PS4/Xbox1 and remakes are becoming ridiculous (bar a few).

Also - one cable to setup ain’t that bad compared to the original, the use case for people having massive spaces would be minimal. Sony made the right decision here and cost has been kept down. Wireless headset with the power of a ps5? Tech is no way near that solution for the masses.

I see people just trying to be negative about the PSVR2. This is maybe not for you but for us who don't want to bother having a PC that has to be constantly upgrated and just want to seat back and play an hour or less after a long day of work, this works for us. Not everyone wants to build a PC and all that

It’s honestly not hard at all to get a ps5, you can literally buy one almost anywhere at a normal price, I don’t understand why people still say it’s hard to find, because at least in the USA it’s incredibly easy

I entirely disagree with you. The PSVR 2 will be incredibly underpriced based on specs. It has a similar pricing based on the PS5 price and comparisons regarding the PS4/PSVR. As for compatibility, original PS4 games WILL be compatible IF the developer "ports" them. Think of the shift from DOS to windows and you get somewhat of a clue regarding the differences. Yet, even that is short as the differences in PSVR/PSVR2 are hardware based. As for a separate chip, moving to a new maker helps avoid competition for the chips. Granted, the chip's performance is a big question.

I think the tethered wire is the way to go so that you don’t have to worry about running out of battery and so that the graphical power from the PS5 can do much more than what a headset could do alone.

The amount of state of the art tech that’s going into this headset makes the price more than fair. Call of the mountain is a full-size full-length Triple-A game, and making it a bonus game with forbidden west would be throwing away money.

Soon as he said psvr2 is expensive I clicked off. I mean 4k OLED screens, foveated rendering., eye tracking haptics in headset, new controllers with haptic feedback and triggers. What do you guys want?

The comparison to the og psvr is incorrect. You compared the psvr2 set with JUST the psvr1 headset. The controllers and tracking camera were sold separately effectively making them the same price and psvr2 comes with controllers and built in tracking

You can’t really criticize the price and then also say they should have used a more powerful chip so it could be used wirelessly—tethered VR is a substantial cost-saving measure, and will make higher-quality, AAA VR games (not Quest ports) run much better at a higher fidelity. This opens the possibilities of high-quality VR games to come out at a much more consistent pace, and will surely benefit VR as a whole greatly.

it's competing with high end pc vr which it will do well. I don't think the lower end lower visual quality, lower priced meta quest is the direct competitor. but even if it was for a little bit more, the dynamic foveated rendering will blow away what meta quest can do.
