About:
The PlayStation VR2 (PS VR2) is an upcoming virtual reality headset for the PlayStation 5 home video game console developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment set to be released February 22, 2023.[2][3]

History
Sony's first PlayStation VR was released in 2016. Sony announced the PlayStation VR2 for the PlayStation 5 at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show.[4][5]

A release date of February 22, 2023, and a retail price of $549.99 was announced in November 2, 2022 at the official PlayStation Blog.[6]

Hardware
The headset will connect to the PlayStation 5 console with a single USB-C cable.[2] Unlike the first generation PlayStation VR, which tracked player movements through an external PlayStation Camera, the PS VR2 will track movements by four cameras mounted on the headset.[2][3]

The PlayStation VR2 will have an OLED panel with a 4K display resolution.[2] Each display will have a resolution of 2,000 x 2,040 pixels.[3] The headset has two inward-facing eye-tracking cameras. It uses eye-tracking to enable games to use Foveated rendering, a performance optimization technique where the render resolution of the game is reduced in areas where the player is not looking.[3]

The PS VR2 will also feature the new "Sense" controllers.[2] The features of these controllers include the same haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the DualSense, as well as some limited finger tracking.[2]

PS VR2 cannot play first generation PS VR games. Sony explains that this is because the PS VR2 was designed to deliver "a truly next-generation VR experience".[7][8]

Games and content
More than 20 games are in development for PS VR2 from PlayStation Studios and third party partners, including Resident Evil Village, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution, No Man's Sky, Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge, Demeo and PS VR2 exclusive Horizon Call of the Mountain.[9] Gran Turismo 7 and Beat Saber were also confirmed in January.[10]

Reception
Early previews have been positive.[2] The Sense controllers received acclaim from CNET.[3] The lack of backward compatibility, and the price of the headset received mixed reaction.[11][12][13][14]

Finally! Someone actually doing a sensible breakdown of the costs of the PSVR/PSVR2 and calling out the perfectly reasonable price point. I've been saying since the cost was announced that, actually, the PSVR2 price is reasonable for the tech you're getting when you consider the better screen res, eye tracking, 4 tracking sensors built in, two bundled controllers, haptics, adaptive triggers and even finger movement detection. To me, it seems they took everything the 2016 unit was and improved on every aspect.

Awesome video buddy, looking forward to picking up VR2 next Wk

I think the price is bang on. People have been saying to me, its way to expensive, is more than the console. While it is more than the console, i don't think it is expensive. I have the first Oculus Rift CV1. It cost me £600 in 2017. So for the PSVR to have so much tech packed in, with far better visuals, it a bargain i think, plus triple A games at launch. Great break down of the PSVR2.

The thoughtfulness of everything from the headset adjustments to the box being able to be used as a storage box makes me happy. I know the launch isn’t as big as Sony probably wanted it to be. (Preorder still isn’t sold out yet) But I know people will come around once it starts getting into peoples hands and reviews start coming out. Hopefully PC support will be in the works in the future. They could make it where you could only activate on PC if you have a PS5. Kinda like how they are able to track activated consoles. I’d even buy an unlock key. What do you think?

I’m not tripping over 5 friggin’ cords. I’m already paying less to my local emergency room. Worth it!

You've done a great job in covering topics that are not covered elsewhere. Here's one: The PSVR2 seems to be able to toggle eye-tracking off, but what the experience is remains to be reported. Namely:
1) How noticeable is foveated rendering when eye-tracking is turned off?
2) is performance negatively impacted when eye-tracking is turned off?
3) When eye-tracking is off, looking at the social screen, is the foveated region larger or smaller than the eye-tracked foveated region?

I have been in contact with individuals that suffer from involuntary eye movements (nystagmus) and as such fail the eye-tracking calibration. It would also be interesting to know exactly how this impacts overall gaming in a general sense.

You for sure got an sub for this video. You got right to point without bulling and all the extra stuff. When we watch videos, we don't want to hear all the useless talk about other stuff like other channels do. You got right to all the facts we wanted to know and didn't waste our time talking about nonsense. I will always watch your channel now because I know you get to the point .

IPD adjustment was on the PSVR 1, you adjust it in settings and the motors move based off what you put in.

INTERESTED IN PSVR 2 THEN PLEASE READ THIS.

PSVR 2 is well worth the price and here’s why.

The original PSVR was $400 at launch, which would be $470 today with inflation and that was for the headset only.

You then had to buy the camera and move controllers separately, the camera was a further $50 and the move controllers were a further $100 for a pair, taking the price of the full package to $550.

Therefore; making the price around $635 today when you included inflation, which actually makes PSVR 2 around $85 cheaper than its predecessor.

Plus, when the original PSVR launched, it was pretty weak specs wise when compared to its PC counterparts, whereas the PSVR 2 is genuinely a state of the art headset, with eye tracking, 4k HDR OLED lenses and haptic feedback in the headset, plus the controllers are also state of the art, with haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and finger touch recognition.

PSVR 2’s biggest competition, i.e. the Meta Quest 2 has none of those features and is nowhere near powerful enough to compete with PSVR 2 graphically either and that’s $500 for the 250GB model.

Although Meta have released an upgrade, i.e. the Meta Quest Pro, a headset that definitely comes closer to PSVR 2, that headset costs $1500 alone, which is $400 more than both a PS5 and a PSVR 2 headset combined, $500 more if you go for the PS5 digital edition.

Plus; although there are VR headsets out there available for PC, which are definitely capable of competing with (and even surpassing) PSVR 2, you would need at least $2000-$3000 for a capable enough PC and then another $1200-$1500 for a high-end headset, most of which don’t have the PSVR 2’s tech currently, i.e. headset haptics, eye tracking and foliated rendering; nor do they have controllers with haptic feedback or adaptive triggers.

Therefore; anyone who says PSVR 2 is too expensive, clearly knows very little about the VR market; so if you’re excited about PSVR 2 and are thinking about getting it, don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.

The only downside is the lack of backwards compatibility, because in my opinion the original PSVR has one of the best game libraries around, therefore it’s unfortunate that all those games won’t just carry strait over to PSVR 2. Unfortunately this is due to the huge difference in tracking systems.

The original PSVR used light tracking, which used an external camera to track the players movements, whereas PSVR 2 uses inside-out tracking, where the cameras are actually built into the handset itself, which tends to be much more accurate.

However; many developers have already stated that they want to bring their original PSVR games across to PSVR 2 (hopefully with enhancements) and most of those developers are offering a free upgrade, to anyone who bought their game on the original PSVR, so I would expect nearly all of the best titles to make their way over to the new headset.

Plus; the tracking system used in PSVR 2 is now the industry standard, therefore I doubt backwards compatibility will ever be a problem again.

I know most people would prefer the headset to be wireless, but in my humble opinion Sony made the right decision going for a single lightweight cable.

Had Sony tried to make it a wireless standalone headset like the Quest 2, we’d have very little chance of getting quality games, because Sony would have to mandate that all games work both standalone and connected, meaning developers would have to prioritise a weak mobile chipset.

The mobile chipset in the Quest 2 the biggest reason VR games have stagnated, because there just isn’t enough power available to make good AAA quality games, Sony know this which is why they’ve gone with a single cable.

They also couldn’t go for a wireless streaming option either, because Sony are a pug and play console company, could you imagine the uproar we’d have, if people bought PSVR 2 home and then found out that they then needed to go out and buy a brand new Wi-Fi 6 router and ensure that they’ve got gigabyte Internet, just to be able to use it.

Plus the headset would’ve needed additional components to manufacture, which would have pushed the price up even further, at least another $100-$200 and people are already complaining about the price.

VR has come a long way since the original PSVR launched and PSVR 2 is not just a generational leap, it’s more like a three or four times generational leap and it’s priced appropriately for where Sony want it to be, a budget entry into AAA, VR gaming, which is currently only available on PC for thousands of dollars.

Plus; Sony have a genuine plan to take VR mainstream this generation, by creating hybrid games and they’ve also made it much easier for other AAA developers to port their existing games into VR.

Therefore; we are much more likely to get many more full length AAA games this generation, because developers can sell their games to both the traditional gamers and VR gamers, for the same single development cost.

P.S. if you find out you suffer from VR sickness, you can work through it with a little effort.

There’s a VR YouTuber who’s wife suffered severely from motion sickness, but she loved VR so much she was determined to get over it.

She simply played a little bit every day until she started feeling a little sick then stopped and she didn’t try to play through it.

Genuinely; never try to play through it, because it will only get worse.

She then continued the pattern daily, playing for longer and longer sessions and now she plays as much if not more than him and she doesn’t suffer at all any more.

So if the worst happens, you can overcome it.

I preordered the call of the mountain psvr2 bundle yesterday. For me, I'm ready to just ha e my vr headset that I can plug in the front and just go. No camera bs, no weird move controllers, no weird hdmi pass-through bs, this is the way it should have always been. This will mean far better accessibility which means I'll get to play more since I stay busy af and hardly have time for games. I mainly use it to intensely play beat saber to get some exercise.

One thing I don't like about the V.R two is you need the internet to update it. And most of the games are not physical disk. They're digital.

My PSVR absolutely had 3D audio...and I swear I could adjust my lenses.

Also...never had any fog problems with my PSVR or Quest 2.
